Paul McMahon LRPS

I'm a photographer based in Belfast. I picked up a DSLR in 2011, I immediately started studying, firstly with a GCSE in which I achieved an A* grade. I was quite comfortable with my camera by the end of the course. I went on to study at A-Level too but the course was cut after the first year. Since then I've taken charge of my own development taking pictures when ever I possibly could. I've done several portraiture work shops and I am constantly craving the need to learn.

I've been part of the camera club circuit here in Northern Ireland and I am a member of a club affiliated to the Northern Ireland Photographic Association (NIPA). I have had several successes in competitions locally and this has encouraged me to grow even more. I want to work with more models and other professionals to create more amazing work.

I'd love to grow my portfolio and move into as many branches of art and photography as I can. I aim to achieve success in everything I do and I work hard to do this.

On a personal level I'm often shy, quiet, and introverted but I've worked against this nature and made myself into a gentle and respectful photographer. I think that due to my introverted nature I have the utmost respect for personal boundaries. I'd never want to put a person in a position that they were uncomfortable with and I think that this is important to note for models who do nude art work and would be willing to work with me.

While I don't have the most experience, everyone has to start somewhere. I have to admit even to myself that I'm off to a pretty good start. I achieved success with the Royal Photographic Society in May 2015 just a few weeks after my first professional studio workshop. I learned so much from this experience and it was wonderful to see the professional side of working with others in this industry. Since then I've won a few club competitions with my prints and 1 print was given a star by NIPA after getting 14 points out of 15.
