Petrichor

I’m a portrait and bodyscapes photographer. I’m in search of capturing that fleeting moment. I find that photography is one of mediums that helps me make meaning in this insanely beautiful world we live in.

I first picked up a manual film camera 22 years ago, and my relationship with photography has been varied. For pretty much the first decade, I shot purely landscapes, nature, and wildlife. My day job as an ecologist probably contributed to this. 

Only for the last decade or so have I been putting more focus on humans. During this time I got a better understanding of emotions and ‘feel’ that sometimes define a good image. It was also this time when I switched almost completely to shooting in monochrome. The fact that I’m colourblind was probably a contributing factor. However, I believe shooting in monochrome makes it easier for me to put focus on the person in the frame.

I enjoy working with a diversity of people and prefer that image creation be the result of a two-way interaction between the photographer and the muse.

I am generally averse to studio photography, and prefer to understand and play with natural light rather than artificial lighting.
