A second time here on PP in the last 10 years. Currently not shooting with models,so please don't ask. Outdoor shooting occasionally (summertime and/or weather permitting) to my taste and only with a female model of my choice. I have an AFIAP distinction. Willing to mentor a newbie or someone needs guidance. Not interested in commercial assignments anymore. Nor in group shoots in abroad. No retouching offers either.
About me
(excerpts from an interview in the spanish "Luz y Tinta" photography magazine)
"For me,photography isn't simply about creating a literal representation of what I see: it is about communicating the emotions I feel at a time and portraying them in a visual form through my artistic interpretation." (AMP)
"Born in Hungary. A self-taught photographer since childhood. Started taking portraits and landscapes with an old TLR camera. His first published image in a local newspaper was about a school football championship. He spent nearly a decade in the USA and Canada where he was working in fashion and still photography. His main interest is a versatile and experimental approach in conceptual art, artistic nude, nostalgic style, people and nature oriented imagery . Attila has an eclectic and lyrical attitude when it comes to create his images. He is working with film (analogue) and digital cameras and a smartphone. His images were published in many magazines, newspapers and websites, but his main interest is in exhibitions mostly in international venues. Exhibited several of his work in the USA,Canada,Italy,Spain,France,UK, Norway and Hungary.(Solo retrospective exhibition in Hungary: 05/06/19) Currently exhibiting in Rome and Trondheim. (2023-24) His art work can be found in private collections from Texas to Switzerland. AFIAP gold medal winner. He also a hobbyist bird photographer. "
"When and how did you start to create images?
The first image I took and others considered it artistic was around 1979-ish. Placed two stuffed birds on a garden bench, like they were conversing with each other and snapped it with my father's old medium format TLR camera.
Do you went to an art school or self-taught?
self-taught
Do you create as a professional or for your own?
I used to do photography on a professional level, like commercial stuff, catalogue work, weddings etc.,but I stopped it about 10 years ago. If you are a professional photographer you will learn to hate photography after a while. So I just stopped in time I reckon.
How do you learn and work your skill?
Patience, patience, patience and be experimental amateur at all times,no matter what technical level you are at. Also go to museums, art galleries and browse online. One thing I learned: Do not go with the flow and the trendy. Do not do what others or the so called "professionals" consider art. Do not mimic others and do not wish to be someone you are not. Trust in your eye. If you have good photographer's eyes you can make art.
What do you like in photography, what is your motivation?
I work with light. As long as there is light ,there is motivation.
What do you want to express or arouse in those who watch your work?
I'm not sure if I want to arouse anyone. Sometimes its good to shock and scandalize the viewer, but I'm not willing to create pictures just to please others. If I do then I would get myself commercialised and would shoot no-name landscapes and sunsets for travel agents, stockphotos or a wall -art and home furnishing company.. No thank you.
What are your favourite subject(s)?
Nothing specific. My interest in subjects are constantly changing. I like experimenting with different subjects all the time.
How do you prepare a creation or project work?
You can plan a concept in your head first, then try to visualize it. If the latter works, then go for it,no matter what it takes to achieve it.
What are your prefered moment(s) when you create?
It depends on the project really. If its in a studio or working at home, then the listening of classical piano music or instrumental jazz is a must.
What are your most representative creations, and why?
Maybe those I did not share yet with the public. I do have some creations which I made to the drawer yet.
What are you trying to share via your photography?
The way I see things and how I see them and why.
Who are artists that fascinate or give you inspiration?
This would be a long list.
What equipment and/or technique do you use?
Nowadays more film and less digital. I'm going backwards. Probably I'm the only photographer in the world who does not use Photoshop. I use sometimes smartphone to create art, just for the sake of convenience and simplicity. What I think that you can make a bad picture with your expensive digital SLR and a good picture with your cheap beaten up washing machine. The point is that no matter what equipment you use its not the camera taking the picture, but you.
How and why your work has changed since you started?
Everything is constantly changing around us. Are we talking about change or improvement? Its not the same term.
What does the Internet media give you?
Exposure. Mainly.
What was the best advice given to you by an artist?
Before I was starting "serious" photography I was enrolled into a drawing/painting club as a teenager. One day the instructor, who was a very famous and successful artist painter nationwide seen my freshly developed photos. After he shuffled through the handful of my prints he said: " Son throw away the brush, but never ever throw away your camera!"
If you couldn’t be an photographer, what would you do?
I would be the famous......
What are your plans in the future?
We are all in God's hands. I do like to participate in more exhibitions especially on international venues whether as a solo exhibitor or in a thematical group.
Do you have anything else to say?
Thank you "
