Thank you for taking time to view my portfolio.
I have always found people to be the most interesting subjects for my photographs and so, when the opportunity arose, I focused on taking portraits, setting myself up with a small portable studio. I greatly enjoy interacting with my subjects and exchanging ideas for shots as the session develops.
Much of my early studio work was with inexperienced models and included gymnasts, family groups, children and babies. I had also photographed school proms, sports and athletics tournaments, gym/dance and stage productions. For the last ten years, however, I have enjoyed working with more experienced models and have found these to be very productive and artistically rewarding. Particularly successful have been shoots with models from gymnastics/dance backgrounds and with experienced art nude models, exploring colour, movement and body shapes, creating beautiful images which perfectly capture the grace and elegance of the art forms.
As the paraphernalia of studio gear increased, so it became less 'portable', and I now work in my own well-equipped home studio.
I am a 'camera club photographer' - my passion for people photography is entirely non-commercial and I create images solely for entry into Club competitions and exhibitions. I enjoy exploring alternative styles and experimenting with different lighting setups; I love my images to have impact and to show creativity. I prepare for each shoot by compiling a folder of images that inspire my own imagination, taking account of my model's style, look and preferences. I then plan sets around them, including details for lighting, clothing, makeup and posing. Notwithstanding that planning, I genuinely approach every shoot as a collaboration - I always value input from my model and am generally happy to go off-piste as new ideas and variations present themselves. Following each shoot I invest much time and care into selecting and then editing images.
If you are a model with an idea which you would like to develop and bring to life, I'd love to hear from you with a view to collaborating. Similarly, if you are just starting out and looking for good quality images to kick-start your portfolio drop me a message to arrange a collaborative shoot.
