I started out as a hobbyist photographer taking photographs of landscapes, seascapes and places, I turned this into a business selling cards and photographs as a side line. I decided 4 years ago to look into portrait photography as I was getting a lot of interest from people who were buying cards and photos asking if I could do portrait, family shoots and events. This was not something I had thought of doing previously so I thought I would investigate what was involved. I looked for local studios that were offering courses in a studio environment initially to see how I got on working in a studio and to get an understanding of what can be achieved with studio lights. I contacted a studio who had one more course they were running before they moved to new premises, what I wasn't expecting was it to be an art nude course and I was really looking to focus on fashion as a starting point, the studio owner did point out that if you can shoot art nude and get it right you can shoot anything and I think he is right.
I did the course and immediately realised it opened up a whole new world of creativity and that it was the direction I wanted to go in, I then invested in my own lights and backdrops so I could practice the things covered in the course and experiment with various things and gain experience. To date I have attended a variety of community events in the Cambridge area offering on the day photo shoots for families and pets, shoots where I have taken my lighting and backdrops to peoples homes, family events and location shoots. I am now looking at doing more studio shoots and I am currently attending various studio days and evenings to build up my portfolio of work and gain more experience working with flash and continuous lighting. I am happy to work at all levels up to art nude. Whilst landscape and seascapes will always be my first love and will remain a hobby I very much see my future photographing people and events.
Thanks for dropping by.
