The Back Story

An experienced photographer with award winning portfolios, including at the Hasselblad Masters with the award of a Victor Hasselblad Diploma in fine art. This is very rare. Numerous Showcase Images on One Model Place and year winner at the Peter Hegre Magazine.

Returned to photography after an 8 year hiatus where a profession and a business had calls on my time.

 Shooting is primarily on location in the West Highland & Islands which provides both beautiful & dramatic natural backdrops, although the studio is also comprehensively equipped.

Shooting

Shooting to pursue fine art concepts and sensibilities is the aim. Most images are usually allegories, metaphors, impressions puns & riffs. The imagery is nearly always pre-conceived/previsualised and very rarely just a literal take of what is there. The metaphor etc, the notion or the mood is more important to me than standard technicality which I personally find non-engaging, formulaic and like a supermarket 'Ready-Meal' or 'Coldplay'.

The influences are often literary including William Butler Yeats, John Keats, Edgar Allan Poe and Sorley MacLean. Amongst others, I admire the photographers Man Ray, Lilo Raymond, Vivian Maier, Saul Leiter, Ernst Hass and the Filmmakers Alain Resnais and Fellini for example. Impressionism and the surreal are regular considerations.  

I have no interest whatsoever in anything 'Adult', 'Graphic' and Tasteless etc etc!!!!!!! - I have a strong sense respect and of aesthetics :)

Locations

WOW! - I stay and mostly shoot in the West Highland by the sea. The landscapes and the waterscapes are truly beautiful, highly evocative & very dramatic. I am a mountaineer, Diver and Wild swimmer and I have secret knowledge of locations offering incredible potential. 

Technical

Equipped with fine lenses, cameras & an extensive comprehensive range of strobe equipment & light modifiers etc both for studio and location with the Landrover Defender being a 'workhorse' in many helpful ways.

Timely  Response Appreciated  :)

Timely responses to offers of paid work are really very appreciated :) Arranging shoots requires organisation & it can affect other people keeping them waiting whilst they have lives to lead. If you get lots of mail please remember that everyone is busy. Eventually that opportunity & paid offer will have to go to another model. After 72 hours I might be moving on -  Thanks for your understanding. :)

Professional Basis

All shoots are on professional basis i.e paying the model & can cover travel and also accommodation expenses. I always shoot with a contract that protects both parties equally. The model always has the opportunity to review and suggest in advance.

References

Many outstanding references can be provided. These are from my former shoots from One Model Place and Pure-Storm  - Although I am now a member of Purple Port.

Posting Images

I shoot models only rarely albeit I am active otherwise in what gets called 'fine-art phtography'. Accordingly, its unlikley I will update on here very often.
