Welcome to my PurplePort profile! I’m Jack Harper, a devoted hobbyist photographer whose journey into the world of imagery began over 14 years ago. My story with photography is one of passion, personal growth, and a deep connection to the art form.

It all started during my time in the British Army. I was away on Adventure Training when a fellow soldier handed me his camera, asking if I could snap some shots while he was out kayaking. The moment I held that camera, something clicked. It felt as though I had discovered a natural extension of myself, and from then on, I was hooked.

Those early years in photography were spent balancing my duties with capturing life’s moments. I had the privilege of documenting my experiences in Afghanistan and other military settings. These years were not just formative but deeply influential, shaping my perspective and approach to capturing the world around me.

After leaving the military in 2012, I was ready to dive headfirst into photography. However, life had its own plans. I encountered some unexpected health challenges that temporarily paused my creative pursuits. In 2016, I faced the diagnosis of Chronic PTSD. This was a turning point—through the trials of recovery, photography emerged as a sanctuary, a means to channel my energy and find solace in creativity.

Photography became more than a hobby; it transformed into a therapeutic outlet, allowing me to escape into a world of artistic expression. Through the lens, I’ve found a way to heal, to immerse myself in creativity, and to focus on the beauty and depth of the world around me.

Today, my work spans Portraiture, Re-Enactment, and Automotive photography. Each genre holds a special place in my heart. In portrait photography, I strive to connect with my subjects, creating a relaxed atmosphere that brings out their true essence. Re-enactment allows me to delve into historical narratives, meticulously recreating scenes with authenticity. And as I explore Automotive photography, I’m excited to capture the sleek lines and intricate designs of vehicles, infusing my fresh perspective into this dynamic field.

As a hobbyist photographer, I am open to collaborating on both Time for Print (TFP) and paid projects. My approach is flexible and focused on creating meaningful work. For organizing shoots, please use my website to streamline communication. Castings will be initially posted on PurplePort, but I’ll include a link to my website where you can apply directly for a smooth application process.

It’s important to note that my work does not include adult content or projects involving nudity. My focus remains on creating engaging, respectful, and high-quality images within the genres I love.
