I have truly been captivated by the world of photography from a very young age. Encouraged, taught, and inspired by my father, my childhood interest in photography grew from taking simple snap shots, to learning how to develop and print my own photographs in a darkened bathroom. Having got by for a couple of years on Dad’s “hand me downs” the first camera I purchased was a Zorki-4, a 35mm rangefinder camera made in the USSR. Its hard to imagine the pre digital age now but with everything being manual there was no option other than to learn about apertures, shutter speeds, depth of field and all the other things that modern day cameras all do at the flick of a switch.I entered my first competition at the age of 14, and still remember that image … a close up of a monkeys face as it stretched desperately through the bars of its cage.  It made me realise how memories can be captured forever, and with that my love of photography began. My other passions include people and travel, both of which have provided an unlimited source of influence for my work. I’ve been very lucky to have lived, worked, and visited many countries, and in 2005 fulfilled one of my dreams by visiting the Ansel Adams Centre in Yosemite National Park, California, USA. Ansel Adams was a black and white photographer, best known for his landscapes, and development of the zone system which isn’t dissimilar to how HDR photos work today. Both his iconic images and words have always been there amongst my favourites including this quote …

“A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is thereby a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety.”

It’s this belief that has allowed me to view the world in a different way and to expand my portfolio from my home in Leicestershire. I have my own website www dreamscanbe co uk which features a selection of images illustrating the diversity of my work. I'm really looking to expand my portrait photography and hope this site will enable me to do so.
