References for Doug Meldrum

It's hard to believe that Doug attended my first Art Nude In The Landscape Experience back in 2007 and here he was again in 2019, attending our latest one. Doug is one of the nicest, most genuine guys you could meet and it is always a pleasure when he attends our events because he brings enthusiasm and a bundle of ideas into the mix himself. He is always very respectful of the models and his creativity in inspiring. I would definitely recommend models to work with Doug on any project, location or studio.

So after being on each other’s radar to shoot for quite some time before we nailed our first session together at an Aberdeen studio… It seems like Doug and I have now multiple shoots in a relatively short space of time when you consider our recent encounter on the 2019 PhotoClassic Art Nude In The Landscape workshop! :P It was so awesome having Doug on board this event – awesome working together at such stunning locations, and awesome having him as part of the discussion/image view sessions when we generally have a whole load of banter and laughs in the process.  Doug is a really sweet person with a heart of gold and when I found out that he was going to be joining us, I was over the moon quite literally.

Over the 3 day workshop, the wild Highlands didn’t disappoint with the mix of weather and environment conditions: not as harsh as previous years admittedly but all part of the fun with the challenges that the event has you face to develop positively in tackling location photo shoots. Still, Doug got some utterly GORGEOUS shots! He took each shooting session completely in his stride, worked through the technicalities and captured some really lovely moments of myself, the other models and us all together too! Even some of the outtakes were something I will treasure! :D Doug is a very committed photographer who takes a lot of pride in his work and puts the effort into each shot with composition/focus/framing etc. He’s a joy to work with because of his genuine artistic drive and it was so fun being able to work on that at such awe-inspiring sites at probably one of the globes most stunning places to shoot.

Doug is routinely courteous and respectful of other/the people that he works with. He’s got a lovely nature which I saw on our very first shoot – but also within our group on the PhotoClassic event. He was right in with taking part in the chats we had in down-time as a group which are so fun on a social level for sharing experience and photographic interests relevant to the tasks in hand. He really did throw himself right in and I certainly enjoyed working alongside him over the cluster of days making adventures in Assynt. I most certainly recommend him – as I did before.

I really look forward to working with Doug again sometime in the future (whether outdoors or in) and can’t wait to see the beautiful images he created in Assynt surface as he gets chance to edit them. 

Aww, I was thrilled to get to shoot with Doug at long last! It must be months... Possibly even years since we first began communicating about it; but mutual availability had just never fit until now. It's probably an incredibly overused/cliché statement but I don't care because it's true: It was sooooo worth the wait! :D

Doug was on-the-ball with planning... He arranged the studio sorting out times and got it nice and warm for our shoot, we had informative and helpful communication prior to the shoot date so that I knew what I needed to be prepped with since I would be starting my Scottish tour some days before we would shoot, he got to the studio early and arranged the lights accordingly for us to get started... He's a very organised and professionally influenced photographer who approaches shoots with wonderful creative drive and the mindset to put everything in place to make it a success: thinking about everything from the location suitability to model comfort. A star literally in that sense alone because whilst it may well be possible to get good/interesting results by winging it - there is a whole load of truth in "preparation is the key to success." And our shoot was the proof. :)

Did I mention that Doug's photography is superb? Yes is certainly is - and I saw the back of the camera to back it up! We were blessed with productivity across multiple different styles and Doug was always: onto the lights with a genius eye to get the most effective feel to the shots, assessing the angles and composition to get it as good in-camera as he could, working with me with communication/direction if he saw something which looked good and making certain I was okay/comfortable at all times whilst it was all happening. WHAT A STAR! And that's how you reap the rewards because one set after another, the images just looked the business. Doug has fantastic perfectionist vision with his photography work and it does sparkle within his photographs.

Doesn't need to be said twice - an utter gent in every way! Doug helped me with my stuff when I arrived at the studio... Because whether they use them or not, models have a habit of bringing cases as heavy as houses. :P He made sure that I was happy with everything we were shooting/comfortable and content, I cannot stress how nice a person he is - even popping to the shop for me to get some nibbles. He really looks after the models he works with and has a heart of gold. Very nice natured and chatty too so we did our fair share of chattering whilst we worked too which is pretty obligatory I think. :P

Very, very highly recommended!

I really look forward to future opportunities to work with Doug again!

I had such an enjoyable and productive shoot with Doug during my Scotland tour. He kindly collected me from the hotel I was staying at and walked me over to the studio. Very professional, friendly and respectful throughout, loved to experiment with lighting and had no problem creating some ideas for various sets. The images came out beautifully on quickly previewing them and I look forward to seeing the finished results. Highly enjoyable shoot and I would highly recommend doug to any model.

doug was fantastic to work with... really lovely man with a real eye for photography... we got some great images in the time we had together..

I have worked with Doug on numerous occasions but usually on a group shoot. We finally had the opportunity to work together one-to-one on an early morning sunrise shoot (approx. 4am!!). The weather and sky was kind to us and we managed to capture a beautiful sunrise. We bounced ideas off each other and worked well together to produce an amazing set of images. I absolutely love them!!

Doug is a joy to work with, easygoing, professional, I felt comfortable working with him, first class communication, full of ideas but happy to work with the model to gain the best possible results and is an absolute credit to the industry. Book him now as you wont be disappointed!

I VERY highly recommend Doug to everyone and look forward to working with him again and soon.

I shot with Doug last week on a night time fashion shoot during one of PhotoClassic's workshops.

Although this wasn't a 1-2-1 shoot and there was a reasonably large group of us I still got a little time to chat to Doug during the two hours. The shoot itself went really well, everyone took some super images and there was a lot of laughing and good banter.

I hope I can work with Doug again next time I am up in Scotland! Thank you, Doug :)

I had the opportunity to shoot with Doug on my Model Day at Elgin Studio Hire, he had booked a morning and afternoon slot with the morning slot spent teaching a female photographer about lighting setups and studio lighting and the afternoon slot spent teaching Keith Camera Club different lighting setups.

Doug was a joy to work with and is also a fantastic teacher with a vast knowledge, a lot of experience and patience and has such a professional manner and attitude to both teaching and photography. Even though Doug spent most of his time teaching and helping others we did get some shots together and I found him a joy to work with and felt comfortable and at ease. We are in talks about future shoots and I look forward to working with again in the not-too-distant future.

I very highly recommend Doug to all, a true professional with a great eye for photography and a credit to the industry. Cant wait to work with him again.

Doug has attended several of my workshops over many years and has always been a joy to work with. A highly experienced photographer himself and a gentleman, he always has plenty of ideas to bring to a shoot. He is very experienced at shooting models and comfortable offering direction when needed. I would have no hesitation in recommending Doug to any models, either professionals looking for a good photographer to work with, or beginners looking for a good experienced photographer to learn from.
