So I am now fully up to date with COVID vaccines - just had my fourth. Personal circumstances are somewhat better than before - so thought it was time to pick up the camera again.
Who am I - My name is Dave and I have been photographing things since I was a teenager. Got into working with models about 10 years ago and have had the pleasure of working with some wonderful ladies. I don't shoot as often as I should or could, but when I do, it is usually to a theme that I have been working on, and I will have selected the model(s) that I want to photograph using that theme. Each of my shoots is carefully planned and set out in a detailed shoot plan that includes a selection of sample images. Whilst I do like a good plan - if you have an idea on the day of our shoot we can have a play around with it and see what happens - happy accidents do make for some great shots.
I have been published several times in magazines such as Femme Rebelle and I guess that is my aim from each shoot - to get images published. All my published images are in a folder at the bottom of my portfolio.
Home or Studio - I do prefer home shoots - mine or yours, not bothered as I have my own lighting kit, backdrops and other paraphernalia us photographers carry around with us. If I use a studio, it will tend to be a couple that are local to me and that I have worked at before so know my way around their lighting equipment.
My home is a two-bed bungalow, with a large naturally lite living space and kitchen that has two Velux Windows in the high roof. It's not huge, but it is big enough and I use backdrops to hide furniture.
What to Expect - This is an absolute given but I will say it anyway. I will give you the utmost respect throughout our shoot. My aim is to make you feel as comfortable as possible as that will mean you will produce the poses and the shots that we want. I will never move into your space without asking first and touching to move you into a pose is out of the question. There will be plenty of time for chatting, coffee and snacks. If you want to bring a chaperone, that is absolutely fine as long as they understand that they have no input on the shoot and I will use them to hold things, move things and make drinks!
My Style - not sure I have one really as I guess the style of shot depends on the theme I am working too. I love photographers like Helmut Newton, Mario Testino and Sean Archer. The themes that I use might be based around a piece of furniture, clothing, a look or location...or I have chosen to take inspiration from models such as Marilyn Monroe and Cindy Crawford.
After the shoot - I tend to edit images over a period of time, often revisiting the images and editing another couple. If we have agreed to work TFP (sometimes referred to as trade), then I will aim to get the agreed number of shots to you within the agreed timeframe. If we work TFP, you will be allowed to use the images that I provide in any way you choose, but I would always ask that you acknowledge me as the photographer. If I have paid for your modelling time, then I am under no obligation to provide you with any images from the shoot (although this is rarely the case - I do provide a small selection).
That's about it really - I have lists of models that I want to work with for various parts of the UK and I will begin working my way through it as themes come along. Alternatively, if you would like to shoot with me, please feel free to get in touch so we can chat about ideas.
