Cute Kids, Sapa, Vietnam, 2006

I came upon this group of kids while I was taking a walk in Sapa, a city up in the hills of northern Vietnam. They were scattered about a bit, but once I began to photograph some of them, they all gathered together. I also took some photos with my pocket digital camera, so after each photo they would jump up excitedly to anxiously see the results.

Normally when I photograph people, I like to get down to their eye level. It's no difference with kids. However, when I did that, the buildings in the background became a distraction, so instead, I photographed from a higher point of view that gave me the street as an unobtrusive backdrop.
