I made this photo at a ranch outside of Santa Fe in 1998. The lighting is pure 100% late afternoon New Mexico sunlight. As I was getting the model positioned to get the shadow that I wanted, she put her hand over her face to shield her eyes from the blinding glare. She looked perfect that way, so I asked her to stay like that - as sometimes, a model's natural movements are the best.
