Mainly an amateur photographer, I have worked as a semi-pro, and was one of four covering the Liverpool Pride 2010. I have also photographed the Liverpool Lifestyle magazine awards at the Liverpool Hilton, photographing Ruby Wax, Amanda Harrington amongst other, mainly as reportage, but we had an on-site studio, so visitors could have a momento of the occasion Creating model portfolios and publicity material for emerging bands have come under my wing, as has photographing two "victims" for the L'Oreal hairdresser of the year competition.
My main interests are in portraiture/figure/glamour work, and abstract photography. Do I have a hero? Well certainly the 1930's American photographer Edward Weston who is famous for his nudes and abstracts of peppers - no, not in the same photo!! He was a master of lighting, which is what photography is all about. Following on from that, I love the lighting of the Hollywood photographers in their heyday, the portraits they created are spectacular. So I followed them for many years, but now am after something a bit more edgy - black and white, directional lighting, or a more light, fairy like, ephemeral, fragile feel. Some of the scenes that the Cosplay people create are fantastic.
I have my own studio flash, backdrops and props, but no studio, as I have created a space where it was needed, or rented a studio, if required. But I do love location photography - pretty girl, derelict building, or maybe the sand dunes at Formby, but arrgh!!!! the weather.......
So that's my story, come join me if you will, travel to new ideas, push what we know into the unknown, produce art that we do know, and art that we do not yet know exists........
New!
I now run a small non-permanent studio from home. As required, I turn my front room into a studio and a bedroom into a dressing room to give some privacy. It is equipped with studio flash, backgrounds and props, and also have a number of outfits to play with!. It is small, but having been in use for the past year, seems to work fine. Now, what better name for ByrdArtist to call his studio than Byrd's Nest Studio! Photos will be in the relevant album.
