I can't remember where exactly in India this was. Somewhere in Rajasthan I think?
It is not unusual for women to be manual labourers young women carry rocks on their heads. This mother and daughter were near their home village so may not do this all of the time. However, in Jaisalmer I witnessed a chain gang of young girls working long hours on a building site doing just this.
