My second event at this wonderful studio hosted by the lovely owner Sean and working alongside the talented Creative makeup by Saskia who organised our event and again created a stunning look.

Spacious and well equipped for shooting and also with darkroom facilitation plus a lovely dressing room, full length mirror and lovely decor. Both hot and cold beverages and toilet facilities available also.

As mentioned before easily accessible by public transport and there is parking close by.

Highly recommended to all, do not miss out.

A superb space to produce something eye catching and the owner Sean always on hand to assist you in anyway.

Back to School...

... to learn the dark art of wet plate collodion.

I spent the weekend at Argentum Studio attending the wet plate workshop in the company of Sean, our tutor, very knowledgeable, engaging and welcoming.

The course had the perfect balance of theory and practical, hands-on experience, as well as a well catered lunch and lashings of Yorkshire Tea!

The first day had us going over the chemistry, the techniques, the technology and the all important health and safety. In a nod to tradition, the lens shutter was a bowler hat!! If you know, you know!

Day two had us putting our new found skills in to action. On this occasion we were joined by my long-suffering collaborator, Kasia, as model.

The resulting images were impressive, the actual process of creating the plates, exposing the plates in camera and, filally, developing the images in the darkroom was truly magical. Spoiler alert: it is really just chemistry.

I would highly recommend the course to all photographers as well as those with a creative mind.

Sean is an excellent tutor, we were able to work through at our own pace, overall a very relaxed and friendly environment, and fantastic company.

I will certainly be putting my new skills to good use, and am looking forward to shooting more wet plate collodion in the future.

Sunday 9 June 2024 - UV Stargazing Event with Aurora Violet at Argentum Studio Musselburgh

with Creative makeup by Saskia.

I attended the creative event at the studio is well cited and straight forward to get too in Musselburgh. Comms were good throughout and Saskia welcomed me with coffee on arrival.

What is a definite plus, just up from the studio, is a large well cited free carpark that offers plenty of space not generally available, and there is also a great restaurant nearby too.

The studio itself was set up with UV lighting units that were lowered from ceiling mounts to hight as required. This greatly impacts on giving a good working space. Saskia had darkened Aurora's body with a grey base before applying UV luminous paint to great effect.

I chose to shoot with high ISO and producing in both colour and mono later. This is my first experience with Ultraviolet Lighting and I do like the medium. The studio itself is well equipped and offers plenty of space for a wide capture range too.

Finally I give Argentum Studio my total recommendation and am sure to be back at this super location in future. Thank you all.

I really enjoyed modelling at this fabulously unique studio for the first time hosted by the lovely owner Sean and working alongside the talented Creative makeup by Saskia who organised our fully booked event and did such an amazingly beautiful job on makeup, body painting and styling. 😁

A gem of a space providing a variety of creative inspiration and something very different to anything else within Scotland I have came across. With UV lighting equipment that can be lowered each photographer captured the magic of our UV paint concept. Creating some very dynamic and striking results.

Fully equipped to a high standard, with a spacious shooting area for digital photography and more with professional lighting available and also facilitates a darkroom plus a lovely dressing room, full length mirror, beautiful decor and makeup area. Snacks and beverages available plus toilet facilities.

Also very accessible by public transport and local free parking just a short 5 minute walk away.

The owner Sean is so professional, respectful, skilled in various fields of photography welcoming, warm and friendly, with a passion to provide a wonderful experience and space for any creative to capture the results you are looking to create with assistance if required and in such a nice relaxed atmosphere.

I highly recommend Argentum to all creatives, do not miss out on this fabulous space.

I am already looking forward to returning again with a few more events in the works.

I had a wonderful shoot at Argentum studio today!

I had already worked with Sean once or twice before and was delighted when he contacted me saying that he now had a studio and would I like to test out some wet plates (my very favourite kind of photography) there.

The studio was easy to get to (just a bus ride from central Edinburgh) and maximises the space well. It's small but well set up for standard studio lighting and wet plate photography, as well as having a separate dressing room and dark room. I was particularly taken with the art nouveau wallpaper which went very well with the Mucha-esque outfits I'd brought.

I had a great time shooting there and definitely recommend the studio to models/photographers. :)

New studio which I wanted to try out as it closer for me. Sean was very helpful with my enquires before hand and quick about getting back to me about the booking.

It is a small studio no getting away from that but Sean has equipped it out well with ceiling mounted lighting rails with 4 pantographs.

This gives the flexibility to light all of the studio space without room being taken up with stands. He was more than enough Elinchrom strobes to satisfy any one and a wide range of modifiers.

Sean kindly meet me before the shoot so he could run me through the set up and answer any of my questions before he left to get on with things. I will be back to use it again in the future
