Lots more images in the albums - take a look!
I am a relaxed and easy going photographer with plenty of ideas. Based in Surrey, my full time job pays the bills, so photography isn’t my main income. I am experienced behind the lens having been seriously into photography for years and am always happy to practice lighting set ups and try new things. Some of my images have been published in corporate publications and on the covers of books. My subjects include some celebrities including Buzz Aldrin and Andy Green.
I will do trade work, and paid work depending on the shoot.
Shooting Interests:
Monochrome nude, pregnancy, portrait, but also wildlife, landscape and time lapse.
I love location work, both outdoor and indoor, but am also pretty happy in a studio, as long as we are not shooting exclusively white backgrounds.
I am not keen on "blood and guts" shoots, tying people up or depicting people in pain. Natural features are good, so things like lip filler, boob jobs, massive eyelashes and tattoos are not really my thing. When it comes to makeup, less is definitely more. With that in mind, if you have stretch marks, birth marks etc, then don’t worry!
Techniques:
I also print my own photographs using some alternative processes, including Cyanotype Platinum/Palladium, photogravure and glass. Sometimes my kit includes an instant camera, or some antique film cameras as well as my digital kit.
I generally do not do a massive amount of retouching of my photographs. I want to depict people as they are, rather than with some strange sense of false “beauty”. Generally temporary things like acne or bruises will be edited, but skin texture will remain untouched. I like people as they are and often the “imperfect” shows the beauty, rather than having a bland face with no character. To that end frequency separation or similar are not usually part of my toolkit as I think they make people look different to who they are. I do like playing with contrast, levels, colours etc and making monochrome images.
Levels:
Your levels will always be respected, as long as I know what they are. I generally like to have fun, generate a bit of a rapport and get the best out all involved.
You are always welcome to bring a friend to a shoot. You will find me respectful, interested and happy to collaborate with your own ideas as well as mine. I treat models as I would wish to be treated myself - biscuits are usually provided
Other thoughts:
I am the owner of the Black and White Nudes Group on here, after Russ Freeman passed it on to me. Please feel free to submit your images.
Re-touching and Naming images
I really hate naming my images - so they are usually just the name of the model, place, or animal in the image. Occasionally if there is a word or number in the image that will be the name. For me, adding a name does nothing and feels a bit pretentious.
Chaperones and Safety
You are welcome to bring someone to the shoot. I do prefer to generate a rapport with my collaborators, so please be careful that anyone you bring along doesn’t spoil that. Your safety is important, I will shoot in places that could be considered dangerous, like abandoned buildings for instance, but always make sure we do not take excessive risk – if you are unhappy, you won’t be forced to do something you think is dangerous.
Lateness/No-show
Please try to avoid being late or cancelling at short notice – thank you.
