Those Left Behind. Tribute to the Fallen's Loved Ones

With the D Day 75years celebration upon us and the celebrations taking place around Europe for the invasion and ultimate liberation of Western Europe by Allied troops comprising British, Canadians, Australians, New Zealand, Indian, American, Free French, Free Polish, Free Dutch, Free Norwegian and countless other nations. Spare a thought for those that gave their loved ones to the cause.

For those that lost a husband, brother, son, gran son, uncle, fiancée or loved one. (Sorry for sounding sexist at this point but predominately in 1944 on D Day the troops comprised of males.) For it was people like my gran that gave her son who at the age of 21 died amongst the guns around Caen on the 10th July 1944. His fiancée who's future was re-shaped as his body laid in the village of Maltot for two weeks as the German 12th SS Division defended the line as the rest of the 43rd Wessex Division tried to take Maltot which was suppose to be a simple occupation for Uncle Albert and the 7th Battalion the Royal Hampshire Regt.

It is the true heroes of war is those that carry on and grieve for people they have loved and cared for long before they should have been taken. I never had chance to meet my Uncle Albert, but I served in the 80's with a unit that had taken part in the battle in 1944 and lost 50% of it's manpower in the fight. We owe the likes of Uncle Albert and all the nans, grandads, brothers and sisters, wives and husband of those that picked up the pieces of that time in history and rebuilt their lives so that we could live ours.

If anyone would like to be part of this tribute then please contact me.

Thank you for your time.
