What communication software?

Gothic Image arr, yeah, that's not the link I put up, well it is but appears to have defaulted away from what I had. Anyway we have been busy chatting away, the person that asked the question is nowhere to be seen. So I won't spend any more time on it.

This is something that helped me find it before:

The EOS 7D was released a decade ago, or so. This means that you will not find a digital version of the original CD listed under an OS like Windows 11. Select an older OS. The OS was current when the camera was released is where you will find the original CD.

Be aware the software written for Windows Operating Systems prior to Windows 10 may not install or run properly on a Windows 10 or 11 platform.

That's copied from tech support Cannon USA.

Hello Everyone and thank you sooooo much for all your input !!!

The EOS updated version didn't work because I didn't have the original, however I now have the EOS FULL version 3 which downloaded successfully !

Who said this was easy LOL ?....super tiny steps....for little me anyway !

So ! next question ?

Dose the photographer the other end of the arranged shoot need to down load the Canon EOS FULL version 3 onto his lab top too ???

I believe I need to buy a cable for between my computer and my camera  from a company called Tether Tool Cables......is this correct please ???

It should work with a normal good quality USB cable, e.g. Anker from Amazon.

Check the end on your camera - it's probably a micro-USB.

Hi Goth, the reason I went to great lengths is because it might not be compatible. EOS utility 3 isn't  listed as compatible. It will be great if it is though.

I think this might be the best option as it's listed as compatible.

https://www.canon-europe.com/support/consumer/products/cameras/eos/eos-7d.html?type=software&softwaredescriptionid=tcm:13-1330031&os=Windows%2010%20(32-bit)&language=EN&productTcmUri=tcm:13-685313

Except that's an updater version that requires you to have the original version installed - which is the problem the OP is facing?

I have just downloaded an updater version to find that it is in fact the full version of utility 2

The full version will install from the updater if you have the correct registry entry (from an earlier installation).

Bit scary for the non-technical.

I don’t think uninstalling v2.0 always removes the registry entry.

The photographer on the other end doesn't need any camera software at all. They drive your software by using Zoom (or similar) to control your laptop.

There's a page here on the Tethertools website that shows you what cable you need: https://tethertools.com/camera/canon-eos-7d/ The Tethertools cables are expensive compared to buying a similar type of cable from eBay, but in my experience you get what you pay for.

I installed it on a Mac without issue, it can be installed as a new installation on a windows PC (apparently) I found the site linked below which is what prompted me to dig out the old 2013 MacBook Pro

That's exactly the website I found.

There's a few typos in that, 'linked above' etc and 'you are right'. I chopped and changed that many times I sent gibberish!

Oh thank you for further replies and yes my friend said sometimes he has bought cables on e.bay that just dont work !

Regards the photographer on the other end not needing the EOS Utility program their end.......that certainly dose not sound a good idea from a security point of view that they have full control of your computor ???.......they could get into anything in your lab top couldn't they ???.......serious alarm bells ringing here now !

Security is certainly a concern if you have sensitive information on the same machine.  One possible way round it might be to set up a separate account for the photographer to log into that doesn't have access to anything sensitive, but if you're really worried the only answer is a separate computer just for remote shoots.

I use Google Meet; it's one click, and you're on...! I haven't had any problems with it yet.
