So Zoom (the free version) has a 40 minute time limit and its £120 per year if you want longer meetings.
What do you use, or recommend, to give photographers full control of your camera that doesn't cost so much?

Zoom doesn't have a 40min time limit - this only applies for group meetings.
I have successfully shot with a model for 4 hours with the free version.

I'd suggest separating the control and communication channels to provide maximum bandwidth - Teamviewer for control of the laptop and Facetime or video calling for communications.

You can also do this via Windows 10 'Quick Assist' & use facetime for the video.
The free version of Teamviewer is for personal use only (cough) :)
Zoom has always been the easiest/simplest way of setting up remote shoots for me, but I have done them many different ways including the method I mentioned above & also using two devices....one for video comms & one for control.
Its deffo a lot of fun though.
I am very keen on shooting remotely with a model who uses Teamviewer. I have 2 pc's and a laptop all of which have win 7 installed and use Chrome as the browser. Every single time I attempt to download Teamviewer the browser blocks me. I have tried installing Opera but that also blocks access to Opera. Any ideas please?
Hello !
I have a Cannon EOS 7D .....a brilliant second hand camera from Wex.
I have downloaded the correct EOS soft wear from Cannons web site, however its the update and wont install because apparently it wants to find the original soft wear on my lab top.....which I dont have because its second hand.
I have you tubed this problem looking at quite a few posts and have carefully followed the instructions.
I'm afraid it hasn't worked !!!
Would anyone have the answer to this problem please ???
Thank you Fleur
Thank you for replying.....Im afraid your dealing with a total novice......whats the firmware please ?
It seems quite difficult to find the complete download of EOS Utility V2 (as the current mirrorless use v3).
I suggest asking WEX for help, as they should have a DVD with it.
Once you've got it installed, it's easy to update.
I don't have one to send you, but maybe someone else has?

Firmware is the software that's embedded into the camera. It's what makes the camera work. Manufacturers often update the firmware to fix glitches, add new features or bring it in line with what is happening with computer software. An example, I use a Canon R6, to connect to my PC I need to use EOS Utility 3 or higher. I install Eos utility 3. My {new to me} 5D MKiii won't connect to any of my computers. Its transpires that the firmware has never been updated. A quick firmware update later and all is good with the world. Now Canon don't go on supporting cameras for ever, and I have no experience with the 7D, but I do know that the old 5D classic hasn't had any firmware updates for quite a number of years and not only is it not compatible with EOS 3, its not compatible with windows 11 either. I don't own a 5d (but hopefully I will) to try these things myself but my understanding from other groups is that you need a computer running windows XP to enable it to connect.
2 takeouts, I would look at your firmware version with a view to updating and second, maybe join a 7d Facebook group or similar for some specific camera advice (that said the 5d groups have been useless lol)
One last thing, historically I have found that the Canon USA website retains more of the older software than Canon UK. I use a VPN so can easily access websites around the world. You might find that google will keep defaulting you back to the UK. Here's a link to Canon USA 7D. I did spot an original installation CD somewhere for download, if I come across it again I will upload a link.

My suggestion is to find a copy of DPP and EOS utility v2 first, install that, then update the camera firmware if needed.
Then update DPP and EOS utility to the most recent version.

You could try this - see if it works (3.0)
I'd go with Huw's suggestion. This is a complete install and won't need to find an older version.

Hi Goth, the reason I went to great lengths is because it might not be compatible. EOS utility 3 isn't listed as compatible. It will be great if it is though.
I think this might be the best option as it's listed as compatible.

Except that's an updater version that requires you to have the original version installed - which is the problem the OP is facing?
