Bluesky Anyone?

I've pretty much joined the X-odus from the mess that used to be Twitter and joined the other X-iles over on Bluesky which is much, much nicer (plus I wanted to grab the right "handle" as quickly as possible).

There are already some PurplePorters over there, so come on in, the water's lovely (and you can post NSFW images on there, unlike Instagram or Facebook, for instance).

Come and say hi:

This post has been moved from the General Chat group to the Promote Your Social Media Accounts group.

Joining this group is as easy as viewing the group and then clicking 'Join group' near the top right.

I would refuse to go anywhere heavily censored - but on the other hand I've never bothered much with Twitter either as it strikes me as ferrets trading insults in a sack (more heat than light I reckon.)

I like my politics discussion long-form, civilized and thoughtful.

I deleted Twitter off my phone a couple of weeks ago and I missed it apart a few people I followed. https://bsky.app/profile/masongk.bsky.social

There was a similar thread about this a few days ago. Elmo certainly seems determined to bugger-up Xitter and I suspect Bluesky will become quite important over the next few years. Added to which, the Distributed Social Network model is a very interesting one. For a start it has the support of the EFF (Electronic Fronter Foundation). And it's totally decentralised nature means that power-crazy foreign billionaires such as Elmo and Zuck cannot exert control over it. Thirdly it seems I can host an instance on my own server, and I find that a particularly intriguing idea - not that I'm in any hurry to so, any time soon.

Not much point following my account there, (or Mastadon for that matter). I don't post on either of them ATM. I still preferring to use my own sites for the bulk of my content, c/w "real world" networks of people I actually know and have interacted with - either on a personal or a business level.  That said, I am enjoying many of the posts I've read on Bluesky. There doesn't seem to be the level of hatred, racism and other nastiness one sees on other platforms. In fact, it seems almost civilised! Though no doubt that will change as more people use it.

Needed to set up multiple accounts there which might be a faff, but calmnudes.bsky.social  exists now.  Just followed everyone who's posted theirs here.

It looks so like twitter was when I liked twitter.  Now to find out if anyone else is on there

I didn't have this group in my feed.

I agree it seems civilised but no doubt as it's gaining a million new accounts a day it won't be long before all the bots, misinformation, and scammer accounts join.

I think that's why I'm holding back a little. Meantime you may have observed that you are currently being followed by a large web-footed waterfowl. ;-)

I've joined up as Bergman Greenstreet Let's see how it goes.  I joined Twitter back in 2017 and had some good times and made some good friends who inspired me to write erotica and to take up photography.

Bluesky depends on a single nodal point owned by a company, the relay servers, although they distribute some storage to users.

That is the same vulnerability to assorted failures and nastinesses as Xitter.

The Fediverse - Mastodon, Pixelview and a few other apps - is properly distributed.

Photog.social is a server that is what it sounds like; I've not seen one called models.social but I'd not rule it out; and kinkyelephant.social is related to a model on here.

One need not set up one's own, but can't be stopped from doing so. And then looking for others that will federate.
