What to keep and what to remove

By MarcAyresPhoto, 1714142986

I'm one of those who find it relatively hard to trim down my portfolio. I'd like to get it down to 20-30 images

So, what do I keep and what do I remove.

Also, is my work a bit bland just being black and white? It's what I enjoy and what I'm comfortable with, but would. a few colour shots help. Bearing in mind I'm actually colourblind and my colour work can be a bit on / off

Thanks all, you can be brutal, I'm old and ugly enough to take it

You're quietly one of my favourite photographers on here. And I love your black and white work.

Finding it hard to suggest what I'd remove. Reason being: what ever you do you direct models. You mine a lot of character out of them.

I'd say if you have more than one image of the same person, pick your favourite and subtract the rest.

Quality work.

Rather than 'remove' if you truly wish to cut down on your page - why not have a folder of 'older work' and keep your newest for profile activity?

I tried. Really I did. But I can't find a true dud there. Some more to my taste, and those less to my taste have got a stack of loves so no sense in binning those. Not only is the work good, but it hangs together as collection, so I can't even say "drop that because it doesn't fit with the others.".

So I can give your ego a little stroke, but  feedback that's helpful... sorry :-)

Yup, can’t find a single image to cull. All fabulous so don’t cut. If it’s not broke don’t try to fix it.

Mono isn't bland. Yours doubly so.

You have more images on the main page than is essential, and fewer albums than many people, including me, think convenient or useful.

Once you start separating and sorting your work, putting all of it into another album called "All" may be useful, and you might choose to have one for colour and one for mono also.  Or not.

I commend the bubble sort to you.  Given, say, 40 images and 30 slots, arrange the images in a random order, a single notional line.  For each image in turn consider whether it should be below or above the image next to it, in whichever direction you are working.  Make more than one pass though if needed.  Remove* the bottom, say, 10.

* possibly to an album, or six.
