"So as a photographer is there anything about my portfolio that would prevent you from working with me?"

On your port? It would be the no shows. The last one was within a year.

But the biggest reason on why I don't shoot more models? It would be the travel.

The cost of train travel would cost more than the shoot itself.

That's fair enough. I have explained previously that I had some issues with my mental health in the past, depression and anxiety I don't really want to go into further detail as It was a distressing time for me. I don't have it in my notes but I am l fully willing to explain what happened in a private message to any photographer that queries it and hopefully they would understand the situation and decide to work with me.

As I said before I can't change what happened and thankfully have made a good recovery  but I feel that upon reading my hundreds of positive references you would see my good character and work ethic and hopefully that along with my portfolio images would be enough to warrant shooting with me.

That's fair. I'm happy you've recovered.

I've just updated my notes making them much clearer and also my rates and a explanation of them, hopefully this reads much better now and is more encouraging for photographers to book me.

A couple of suggestions if I may?

  • The wording "I have 2 options when you book a shoot with me" could be taken as meaning they are the ONLY two options - you either shoot me at my house or at the studio, that's it.  You've mentioned many local locations in this thread for example, but there's nothing about that in your notes.  It almost sounds as though you're trying to dictate where you're prepared to be shot - I know you aren't, but ...
  • Noting the comments above about some photographers being frightened of shooting an experienced model who's also a photographer, perhaps some words about being happy to work with photographers of all levels might be helpful, too.  May be even "I don't bite"!

I hope that helps?

Speaking personally, the biggest obstacle for me booking a model is the "hassle factor".

What I look for is a model who is ideally close by (to reduce travel time), who responds quickly and positively to enquiries, who gives all the relevant information in messages, who has a clear portfolio of outfits to choose from and who is able to suggest shoot styles and locations.

For me, and I suspect for many photographers, those things are far more important than the model's hourly rate.  Whether a model charges £30 ph or £50 ph is completely immaterial compared to the cost of the equipment we carry around in our camera bags.

As well as making it easy for photographers to book you, I would also suggest (if you haven't already done so) that you proactively contact photographers who are local or who you think might want to work with you.  Explaining what you like about their portfolio and suggesting how you could enhance it (as well as giving all relevant information in one message so that it's easy to book you) is also likely to be more fruitful than the occasional message that I get from other models who just say "Do you want to shoot?" (and who are typically a long way away or whose portfolios are full of levels that don't feature in my own portfolio).

Chris Green Messages looking for payment with false praises I doubt many photographers would like that.

It's the travelling for me and fitting shoots in with other activities. I'm hoping to come over to your networking afternoon in August, so hopefully we can sort something then.

Have you tried networking with your local Photographic / Camera clubs?  I have arranged two portrait night shoots for Rochdale PS with local PP models  with hopefully more to come.  Some clubs have studio groups which will do more than the standard portrait night.

I noticed that several folks had made/placed some nice comments against your shots and you hadn't replied two months later to those. I just deleted my own after two months after initially seeing the great light coming through your Studio Window.

i think your hourly rate is good and fair.

i think your shared studio space is excellent.

you can't do anything about the cost of living issues nor the winter weather for outdoor shoots.

Methinks you've been watching too much Victor Meldrew.

The model I've worked with most over the past 2-3 years Whatsapps me regularly with her upcoming availability, when she's going to be away (eg holidays), planned changes to her hair colour/style, new locations she has available to shoot in and a host of other things. I like this, and its certainly resulted in me working with her more often than I otherwise would have.

Hazard is it obligatory to reply to comments here? I just add a like to every comment but rarely reply myself .

- it was an observation. the OP asked for comments and I gave one based on non-responses or non-likes to a studio related image.

"is there anything about my portfolio that would prevent you from working with me?"

would you work with someone IF they didn't reply to shots taken at there Studio?

My answer is No

I thought it was a honest question from the OP deserving an honest response. Not your response.
