When you say you don't care, do you really mean it?

I wish people would stop trashing IG. If you don't use it properly, it will feed you trash. It's been the sole platform that works for me and it's where you meet people across the board for the type of modelling that I do, as well as meeting ( yes, physically meeting) some incredible artists, musicians, tattoo artists, casting directors.

I couldn't possibly meet those in PP. PP is a different platform.

It is OK not to like something it is not compulsory to like something because someone else loves it, one person's junk is another person's treasure. ;)

I used to love Insta, and now I think it is just a junk fest, that's how social media works, it targets you to make the most money it can from it's users, it is a business tool, now, just like Fb and Youtube etc.
I'm not trashing it, it is merely how I feel about it. Many people love it, but I don't.

I think this is something that most people don't get about any platform that exists to sell eyeballs to advertisers, facebook, IG, Twitter/X (not bluesky yet, but it's bound to come). They show you the stuff that will keep you on the site. Not necessarily what you like - twitter found that actually making people angry and post about how stupid other people were was a good way of keeping their attention and selling more ads. If in doubt show people stuff that gets a reaction from other people - the best way to get extra views is to already be getting a lot of views.  Bluesky learned quite quickly what my work account is interested in and shows me stuff I want to see. IG has got me a ton of people who click like or follow WAY too easily and shows me a strange mix of women writhing around in sexual way (but with their nipples covered), otters whales and other sea life, and adverts for electric cars and "try to make a claim against car makers" schemes. And it know I will coo over the otters long enough to count as a view for a get rich by suing ad. Like most purveyors of junk they've worked out how to people coming back - getting clicks from lovers of junk on the one hand is something we should hate ourselves for on the other keeps us coming back and supplying free content for Mr Zuckerberg to show people between the ads.

I understand it...
I'm sure it works well with many people or they wouldn't do it, I don't use IG that much, because I can't be doing with all the junk, nor am I prepared to go dredging for what I like through an ocean of stuff I couldn't care less about, so it doesn't work on me! I make the occasional post, there is over a year between my last two posts, there are however a couple of people I enjoy seeing, so I just go to them, look and/or comment, and leave.

I think this is all probably beside the point of the thread! :D

Yes and no. Ultimately it's all "What's your reaction to people you don't know on the internet indicating approval of you / your ideas / your work."

And from that do you covet such approval and envy those who get more of it, or do you claim to be above all that (but not above telling other people you don't know that you are above it).

I don't know if I am above it, beyond it probably, I have grown past worrying about what others think, I don't seek approval and it is not important if anyone approves of what I do, I like what I like to do and I do it primarily for my own enjoyment, I experiment a fair bit, that is how you (I) learn new things, and some of that doesn't work out, some does, it is nice if people like it and it is a nice but fleeting feeling if an FPI, or whatever, is achieved, but it is just a side effect of messing about with a camera, if everyone hated it, I still do it.  If everyone hated it, I may even do it more! :D

So yes, I care about it to some degree, but if no one else cares, it is not important.
After all, I tend to fly under the radar and very few people here, or anywhere else for that matter, are aware of my presence.

We need a “hidden gems” group where you can showcase underrated photographers and models you come across. Maybe the site could showcase one such creative every week to get them more support.

I love the idea of the community creating a new group and linking to the hidden gems they see. I think it would be wonderful.

I created https://purpleport.com/group/games/166557/Gems-among-the-Randoms---SFW-only/ for exactly this purpose.  There was some support for a while, but now I seem to be the only person posting to it.

Creating a whole new group would have the downside that only people who joined it would see them, and of course most people don't even visit the groups (I believe it's not one of the default home page gadgets).

The idea is great.  Getting take-up and maintaining momentum is a whole separate world, though.

Sensual Art , the recent group posts gadget is one of the default home page gadgets.

A group post (or group) that doesn't include some self-promotion isn't ever going to be as popular as one that does. It's just the way of the internet.

We don't have stats for how many people visit the groups since we don't track that kind of thing. We only have stats for posts and post views. The norm on all web services is that there are far more (80-20) readers than writers.

As I said, we do a lot to promote our membership, and if there is a convincing case for something new, then I'm keen to hear it.

I've just subscribed to the SFW group, no idea what that means LOL. I don't post my own pics in the Groups because I though it was public to search engines and non-members, I only wish to display pics to members of PP. But I don't mind helping others by posting to the Group, but would they want me to?.

I have to say, I don't understand PP at all well and still learning...

I've had 3 of my suggested go to FPI over the last couple of days so really happy to help those creatives.

Some are open to public viewing, some are not.  You have to go to each Group to check.  (Games is open to the public, so you'd probably prefer not to have your pictures there).

Thanks that is really useful, I will look out to see if groups are public from now on :-)
