When you say you don't care, do you really mean it?

I'm talking about when people say ( including myself) " I don't care about getting an FPI.

Explaining myself regarding this statement:

I view the FPI as similar to being in those online only magazines on Kavyar. I have had stuff "published" in a few and I soon realised that it has no impact whatsoever on what I'm doing and gives me no benefits other than saying I have been chosen by an anonymous person for something that appears important.

I honestly would prefer something tangible on PP to reward us. An FPI perhaps gives us a platform to be seen by more accounts, but this only happens for a few, who are the Superwinners that receive one almost every day.

I don't care, I have far more real life problems on my plate.  Yes, another FPI would be great, but it isn't worth getting all worked up about.

And would this thread have been better off in the 'Let's Talk About FPIs' group?

The FPI has been blown up beyond its intention; purely an image that has been deemed good enough to be used on the front page of the site to help bring in more members. I mean, that's it, nothing more. however because the site puts a rosette on the image in question and congratulates the member with a notification, it's somehow become some sort of award and something some members wrongly put all their energies into trying to achieve.

The reality is, is that outside of Purpleport, it is utterly worthless to the member whose image has been selected. Yes, it gains a lot of loves, comments and occasionally the odd booking because of it, but after a few short hours - at most a day or two - it's pretty much back to normal. And practically anyone in the industry outside of the site will be like "WTF is an FPI???" if told.

What members should be doing is not worry about the FPIs, especially those who seem to make it their life goal on this site, and put all their energy into making the next shoot more awesome than the last. That's far more rewarding than an FPI.

No one worries about getting an FPI and it won't be the end of the world if you never get one, but then again if you get one it's an achievement. As far as I am aware, the people who put an image in the FPI queue are creatives like us, so to be chosen by your peers to be put in the FPI queue means something to me and many others. If you are then lucky enough to get the FPI then that means other judges didn't vote you off, so agreed that your image was FPI material.

The Super Winners of FPI's in my honest opinion deserve the FPI's. I suggest many images for an FPI that appeal to me, sometimes the creator has zero FPI's, a handful and even those super winners too. If it appeals to me I suggest it. Marissa, I suggested at least 1 of yours, the belt implied topless on both your photography and model page. I thought that image was creative, unique and deserved an FPI, hopefully more elves agree with me.

Personally, I think FPIs do exactly what they are designed to do. Models and photographers who receive one get a boost in portfolio visits for a short while, which is helpful if you’re a model looking for paid work—it keeps you in photographers’ eyes. The same applies to photographers; they often attract more TF shoots if models think there’s a chance of getting an FPI, for the same reason—it can lead to increased profile traffic and paid work.

If you’re looking for a monetary gain, though, you might want to try the competitions for a chance to win a free month on PP. :-)

After the brief honeymoon period, FPI's become the digital equivalent of yesterday's chip papers, forgotten amidst the mists of time. Best to just shoot what you like, anything more than that is a bonus :)

I care.

Not very much, but it’s a pleasant surprise. Usually get a few hundred extra views and a hundred extra loves. It’s nice. Not exactly life-changing, but nice.

They aren’t always my best photos. That’s ok.

I take some care cropping the thumbnail to make it strong, that’s all.

Most shoots get an FPI. Haven’t noticed a queue of people asking for TF as a result.

I guess the answer depends on how eager you are for recognition.

I wouldn't say I particularly care about getting FPI's; I certainly don't plan images in the hope of ticking all the right boxes to get one.

That said, it's nice if/when somebody, somewhere considers one of my images fit to headline the page. And a plus is that they bring a lot of attention to your portfolio, albeit for a brief period of time.

The criteria by which they are chosen are still something of a mystery to me. Some are fine photos which scream out for recognition, others I'm considerably less sure about.

I was hoping it wouldn't go into FPI group, but I'm sure admin will move it.

I always appreciate it :)

I wouldn't expect to be rewarded by a networking platform at all, so it's always a nice boost to my day getting an FPI. There's lots of stunning work on this site and so many amazing images don't make it, doesn't mean they aren't still amazing images.

I totally agree with everything you have pointed out.

I do wonder what the achievement is, as there is no real reward, other than being displayed on the home page

I thank you for the suggested, but I am pretty sure the quality of the image is not going to make it on the page.

My purpose for being on here is to arrange shoots with models, MUAs, stylists. Some paid, some TFP.

Getting a stream of FPIs helps get my profile in front of more people on this site, and to that extent makes achieving my goal a little easier, and increases the number of people who are happy to do TFP shoots, a little.

So from that perspective FPIs are useful to me, and I appreciate it when I get one. Nothing more, nothing less.

People occasionally look at (my) pictures and say they are nice. Which is nice. As are, probably, they - nice and perhaps just being nice.

When people give me (not very much) money for one or a set of pictures I know the image, or some of the images, have fulfilled a need, been produced acceptably, etc. it is a an external assessment of sorts. OK, usually they are runners or runners' mothers, but thats the assignment.

Similarly, the elves need not smile upon any image or person.

It's nice.
