FPI suggestion tracking.

I have just seen yet another beautiful and stunning image on here (there are so many!). It definitely had a quality that I consider worthy of an FPI. So I suggested it.

I do this quite a lot and realise that once I have suggested it - for me, that is the end of the process. Which got me thinking.

  • Is there a tracking process for fpi suggestions, to let the ‘suggester’ know if an image was awarded an fpi.

  • Is there no process.

I hope there isn’t a process, otherwise it means I haven’t got a clue what qualities and criteria constitute an FPI. …………. And please note, this isn’t meant to start another FPI heated discussion. It is just to see if I have my site settings programmed incorrectly.

People who suggest an image for an Effpie that is awarded one are notified.

Strictly speaking, it's the first person who suggested it that gets notified.  I have a pair of collections, one called "Suggested FPIs" and the other "Suggested FPIs granted" to try and keep track.

This is very true.

On this subject though it'd be nice if anyone who suggested an image for FPI gets notified. Like, I know that multiple FPI suggestions from the general userbase doesn't give an FPI suggestion any more credence than just that initial vote, but for me if I suggest an image for FPI I'd like to know if it's successful even if I wasn't the first to suggest it.

I think three or four things that are tracked are significant for the question.

  1. Has the poster made the image members only / private so that it is ineligible for an FPI meaning the "suggest" option goes away
  2. Has an elf put it in the FPI queue, meaning there is no point in suggesting it and the option goes away.
  3. If it was suggested (queued or not) who first suggested and when. When determines where it goes in the heap of "elves please look at these" Who , determines who is told.

Second and subsequent suggestions don't seem to be logged anywhere, but let people get a warm feeling from re-suggesting an unqueued image. I don't think re-suggesting brings the picture back to the top of the pile. If a picture times out and falls off the bottom of suggestions, or of it gets queued by one elf but voted down by the others, I don't know what happens if it re-suggested.

Internally PP 'knows' who first suggested what, but first suggester is only told they were first if the picture gets to be an FPI, and the poster of the picture never knows who actually suggested the picture - which discourages "He suggested mine, so I must suggest one of his" behaviour.  If you want to know what you have suggested you need to use a collection, but it is possible to prevent your pictures being collected without making them ineligible so that's not 100%

If I suggest one, I say so in the comments, and I add it to my collection. I think its nice to know it's been suggested, even if it doesn't get one.

Regarding your first point, the site says the opposite AIUI:

“Are "members only" images excluded from the FPI collection?

No, but they won't be included when a non-member views the collection“

Sorry, brain fart on my part.  When you edit albums it says "Images placed in private albums will be removed from people's image collections and also lose their FPI status." , I had mentally tangled that up with members only.

Quite complicated really. I thought it was a simple process after suggesting. I also didn’t think more than one person could suggest the image. Sometimes I go to suggest an image, and there is no option to do so. I always thought this meant someone had already suggested it.

I do the same in terms of saying so in the comments too. I only wondered about a notification for an image suggested by me, getting an FPI purely for my own interest. Like you, my main reason for suggesting and putting a note in the comments is to offer a level of my own personal acknowledgement to the photographer and model to say I find their image a bit more special.

I don’t and don’t think I would bother with the extra admin burden of keeping my own lists. It’s a great idea but too much additional admin for me 🥴

No option to suggest means it's queued or ineligible ...

Some people find it nice to be say / hear about suggestions. But you can definitely suggest something that's already been suggested, the elves (AIUI) see the suggested list like anyone else without a count of how many have put it forward.

So you have been a member on PurplePort now for 12 years, but yet you don’t how the FPI’s roughly works? Sir, I find this very hard to believe, very hard indeed.

Become an elf, then you have a whole dashboard which gives you this exact info

No it's not. It's very, very straightforward. But some folk can make even the simplest thing sound complicated. :)

BTW... If the 'suggest' thingie isn't showing, the usual reason is that the pic is already in the 'proper' queue.
