hello to all and to all hello

I'm Paul, my interest in photography started at school, processing and printing B&W images. At the same time my love for TV, film and theatre developed particularly science fiction, fantasy and anything using imagination. I was introduced to studio work by a evening course for an 'O' level in photography which also introduced me to a lot of analogue processing techniques. I ending up doing a degree in the technical side of photography after which I starting work in television first as a cameraman then lighting. My favourite kind of work was effects heavy, I was making blue/green screen features in the 1980's when they were "electronic" rather than digital. For still photography in 1997 after about 20 years of just shooting slides I got a computer with the first reasonably priced full colour graphics card (anyone remember the Matrox Millennium?), Photoshop 3 and started trying to do what I still do today, combine photographs to create images that aren't just records but hopefully exercise the imagination. Initially I used 3D programs for some bits but was never happy with the results, there always seems to be a textural difference between the photographic and 3D elements. At the moment I don't use any 3D programs, creating what I need entirely photographically, using miniatures for sets.

Hi all I'm Doug,

Been a production engineer earning a living and wishing I had been fashion photographer for the last 60or so years. But wife and children meant couldn't afford to starve in a Garret. I always loved making pictures from the early days of Gas light paper!!I doubt any one has even heard of them??circa 1940.

Unfortunately engineering doesn't help with artistic flair and imagination, so struggle with artistic concepts! But love trying,

Use Photoshop CS6 + LR plus instructional  videos. Love location shoots but due to aged over 80 now with rubbish legs, usually stuck with studio work!! Although my preference is for fashion and beauty I'm a huge admirer of the shapes made by the female form, so try to be artistic with my lighting.

Since the death of my wife 7years ago I've just been keeping going and trying to avoid joining her.

Hi everyone, I am Martin, been an electronics engineer for 40 years but always been in to photography for maybe 50 years!

I use CC, only started using Photoshop and LR about a year ago, quite addicted now I realise how much. can I do to improve my images,  especially with model photography, i use books and watch videos serveral  times a week, now starting to create some surreal stuff as well. Don't use plugins just methods I pick up and experiment when I am unsure.

I really admire and respect graphic skills as much as the photographer . Need to move my game higher , thank you for creating the group.

@Claire I am also self taught, I use http://phlearn.com./ but only his free ones, very good indeed especially his frequency separation. But for stead and at my pace learning I always use books on Amazon Scott Kelly and Scott Kelby both great, I have a loooong way to go but getting there slowly :)

I'm Mark, and part of my rationale for taking more photographs, is the opportunity to "process" them.

I use Photoshop CC and Lightroom

Hi, have just joined this group - love doing shoots, but get so much pleasure out of the editing/retouching stages - in fact I get edgy when I don't get my daily time with LR and PS :)

Hi - Im a photoshop CC user, literally spent days if my life on youtube learning photoshop retouching, a big fan of frequency separation for skin, I'm finding the more I learn there more there is to learn :D

Hi all I'm Merrill, I subscribe to Adobe CC using mainly PS CC and lightroom for small final adjustments and image organisation.  I've been using Photoshop since the original version 2 at art school and self taught but only over the past 5 years have I been using it seriously to aid me in making money.   I don't use plug-ins becuse like Claire Bartram I like to maintain as much control as possible.

Hi. I just want to say hello. I am a tog of a million years and an enthusiastic PS user and hater of lightroom (my head doesn't get it...)

Valleyman said, 1438077570

Here I am, Valleyman from south Wales and struggling. Struggling with time as I've many things to do and time management isn't my strongest point.

I could have done with this digital stuff years ago so now I sometimes go back over old negatives and revitalise them if possible.

I use PaintShop Pro mainly because I've "grown up with it" since I found the early version that was given away on a 3 1/2" disc; I'm now on x6.

To cap it all I've found Lightroom 5.7 so learning to get the best out of these two programmes keeps me busy but I enjoy the experience greatly.

Mike.
