I enjoyed the Solstice.
Glad you enjoyed your winter solstice. I enjoyed mine too. There is something strangely magical about the longest night - and the longest day. :-)

I spent 37 years working for Royal Mail and each Christmas is treated differently. It has gotten worse since privatisation and with commecial radio churning out the same old crud year after year. (To be fair, I only heard Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody only once this year but the other stuff including the worst song ever, Mariah bleeding Carey put on numerous times throughout one day. Suffice to say, it was a good time to take a break. Then either a flu bug would run rife around the office and on Christmas day, you could find yourself in bed, worn out.
Now to the positive side. I remember waking up with my bothers and sister running dow the stairs to see the front room magically decorated and the christmas carrier bag (no stockings back then) which contained if you were lucky, Gold coins, nuts, Satsuma or clementine orange, a colouring book and if you lucky, a balsa wood plane. Fantastic times. When my Son was old enough to appreciate Christmas, Father Christmas would do the same. The decorations magically would appear and my Wife and I would then take him to Midnight Mass at her Church and Christmas moring would be for me to take him to my Church and afterwards, deliver presents to the family. All this has gone now. No decorations, no family visits (sometimes throughout the year). My Wife would still see her side of the family however that is challenging.
For those who do like Christmas, good on you. For me, it is always about Christ being born and the season of goodwill and a chance to watch some movies, that you have watched countless of times or for me a film not seen before (Last night, I watched The Green Mile for the first time). It is also a break from work for a lot of people, apart from those who work in retail. So enjoy the time, the best you can and remember, you have 364 days to feel ba humbug!

Never seen so many really bad, tacky Xmas images in Recent Images. What is the point? Popping in to say hello. Looking forward to a Humbug flavoured Gin later. 😉 They have every flavour.
This stuff is quite pleasing too - prezzie from my kid brother, addressed to "Mr Chuckles". Bit of proper Yuletide glamour for you too...

I like the family get together and the meal, but I hate how commercialised Christmas has become. Also, I hate the fact that radio stations think that people want to hear the same Christmas songs weeks ahead of the big day! The same thing with Christmas stuff appearing in shops months ahead.
Anyone who has heard of an Aussie comic called Kevin Bloody Wilson will know he has done many Christmas songs. They wont end up on Songs Of Praise so be warned if you are woke or a member of the PC brigade. Here are some classics:
