RTGs powered over 1,000 Russian lighthouses in the Artic Ocean.
I was alluding to that with: They are sometimes used to power remote, unmanned installations.
This remote unmanned installation and its sister have them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyager_1
Scrap metal collectors roamed Russian Arctic installations. One might worry a little.

There has been a project for Small Nuclear Reactors [SNR] that can effectively generate power for individual towns and cities, rather than grid-scale like our current power scheme. I believe that Rolls Royce are the current favourites for this technology.
These SNR are a fraction of the size and cost of their grid-scale counterparts and require less maintenance and staff.
I have often wondered why, if its possible to build a SNR that can power a large American aircraft carrier and provide all its electrical requirements (which would be considerable), why a similar scheme hasn't been adopted for on land.
Cost .. and the court of public opinion.
