Was 2024 your best photography/modelling year so far?

This year has seen a burst of activity for me both in number of shoots and efforts in setting up my shoot space. Is it my best year? To an extent - I've worked with some great models, tried out some concepts and created some of my current favourite images, but every year of shooting has been different with it's own highs and lows.

Photography - it's been one of the better ones. I had a long gap between contracts last year and didn't want to spend money when there was none coming in, so I put the brakes on, then when I got a nice new contract I went berserk and just kept on shooting into this year.
I've been a complete disaster at editing, the last pictures I put up here were shot in July. I have enough editing that I could take the whole of December off and go at it like a job and not quite clear it all.
The last 7 pictures which gave the "you can't change this it's in the FPI queue" message got bounced out so I was thinking I'd stopped uploading here, so I was surprised how much I have uploaded.
Experimenting with bluesky - not getting traction there for my photography like I do for my other persona. Instragram bubbling along. Getting more love there than here.

Well, I only managed two shoots this year, but they were with amazing people, so that was great.

I’ve shot a lot less this year. A number of reasons, not least of which has been having cataract surgery. Plus spending the last few months looking after my good lady who fell and broke all 3 bones in her elbow.
I have 3 shoots before Christmas, definitely a change in pace versus the rest of the year. That said I’ve had a few awesome shoots this year.

Not my best year, no.
I've had a couple of "bursts" - Summer was pretty decent, for example. But on the whole I've found it frustrating. Amateurs like me are getting priced out of the market; I've turned away a lot of models because rates have rocketed outside of my budget. There's also a lot of models who just don't want to shoot the sort of stuff I shoot; I think much of it's basically gone out of fashion. I've also been let down quite a bit too, and it's all contributed to my decision to step back a bit in 2025.
I am hoping for a last hurrah, a really nice shoot to finish on, but I fear I might have done my last shoot already.

In a commercial way no !
For fun, creative shoots absolutely ..... possibly. Been taking photos for 30 plus years and in theory this year should have been a write-off .
My partner walked out of the relationship and forced the sale of "our'' house and my studio, Studio 52. A really good latex model 5 minutes from my house decided to quit modelling and sell all her latex, she was my go to model. I also had my website that I had for 15 years cancelled, and I also lost my Instagram and Facebook, and I was diagnosed with cancer.
I moved into a new home, and probably had the most fun, creative photoshoots I've had for a long time. I've hosted group shoots at my new home and met some wonderful people. I lost Studio 52 that I loved but in it's place I now have a wonderful home and gardens and I've discovered the most amazing studio space 5 mins from my house ( a tunnel that is off the beaten track, filled with graffiti and amazing light - there's a lake the other side and light bounces off it into the tunnel ).
Always had an ambition to do a bath shoot, this year I did 10.

It was going very well until this week.
My sodding effing back has given out again. I'm in pain. And I'm a typical bloke - I don't do pain. So I've had to cancel this weekend's shoots. Damn; bother; blast - or words to that effect.
Mind you, it's got me out of doing Christmas shopping and other Christmas stuff. So it's not all bad.

Overall, it was okay. I had some great creative shoots, but due to real-life situations, I didn't get to do many. Hopefully, 2025 will be much better.

Just when I thought my 2024 was finished, managed to organise another shoot for this week!
Watch this space.

Best in that I shot with two models who matched my specifications look wise even surpassed because they were gorgeous. I enjoyed meeting them and shot the ideas I had in mind in settings that I enjoy. I'm looking to make it a combo of three and it will be a nice ending. It hasn't been easy to find the models that matched my wants but did I did get there.

Yes, i felt i was producing my best ever work inc the editing and was lucky to be in such a demand for shoots. Had some amazing shoots. (I post mainly on my IG page these days for these shoots)
However, early Oct i had to stop all photography due to finding my father who had suffered a bad stroke, then a few weeks later, my business largest client gave us notice which leaves a very uncertain future and then my dads long term partner passed away so between hospital visits, taking care of my dads affairs and very long hours work wise, often around the visits i have just had zero time for photography, let alone editing shoots, but luckily everyone i had shoots booked with were more than understanding.
2025, my dad will be moved to respite care for a few months, more local and i aim to start shooting again and will be putting plans in place to go full time/professional with photography incase i cannot turn the business around.

Yes. I've started to find what I really want to create.
I've been able to work with some incredible models and I've actually had more models than I can cope with approach me to shoot.. which for someone who consistently questions if they are good enough was quite a confidence boost. 😊
My plans for 2025 are to spend a bit of time planning some of the bigger concepts and hopefully build a network of like minded creatives to work with 😊
