So, I think the sheer power of mass market gaming laptops possibly makes them usable….

Next upgrade on the HP z440s would be new graphics cards, but they are handling PS AI stuff fine for now. (I actually have two, one for work, and one for my own photography….  Second one built from leftover bits).

In theory it won’t run Win 11, but it will probably be possible to work around that.

Last time I checked PS's AI stuff was all cloud based, not running locally. Part of the reason for that being the uplift in minimum specifications for running local AI.

Not any more unfortunately latest PS is not compatible with one of my machines.

Microsoft installed its “AI assistant” on my Dell XPS with Win 10 without permission, as part of an automatic update. Not happy about that. Nothing that “ helpfully” reads all my emails so it can make suggestions how to write an email belongs on a work pc.

Got my PC guy coming out next week to exorcise the AI demon….

The HP z440s appear to be so old that they were immune to AI infection. ;’

I have updated all the family computers to Win11 24H2 so they will be receiving updates till November 2026.

Not a single one of them passes the hardware requirements that Microsoft put out.

Not recommended for nervous users but it's my day job so I'm very comfortable with the minimal risk.
