I appreciate there are many fantastic, professionals (in every sense of the word), who work exclusively for pay and I pay them the due courtesy of not offering them a collab, however there are both models and togs with basic skills who seem to think they can charge (this is mainly models but I have heard of togs with a point and shoot or even phone camera who think they are a resurrected Ansell Adams or David Bailey).

As far as I know Bailey is still alive at 86 . If so resurrecting him would be a neat trick.

'To Pay or Not to Pay, that is the question'

I guess the answer is quite simply... 'It's up to you....' :)

She's got it, you want it, you're gonna pay.

it's too early in the day for popcorn so I've opted for a cappuccino and a chocolate digestive....

I genuinely opened a packet of triple chocolate chip cookies, strong black coffee to hand, and a cloth ready for the screen.

nice!

So people should pay for sex?

Can't see any other difference.

As an artist, not a photographer, I always pay my models. The reason is this; when a model is working for me she is giving up the opportunity of paid work elsewhere and so she has to be compensated appropriately.

Huw I don't think they necessarily should, but in one way or another everyone does!

I'm not sure I see the connection between what you've said and the bit you've quoted, though. Not arguing, just not sure I can see the path from A to B 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, you've basically said that people should pay to photograph nudity, and never shoot it TF  ;)

I do (very occasionally) shoot TF.
People would be silly to come to me for clothed TF, seeing that I only shoot a model with clothes on about once every ten years.
If I agree to a TF shoot, it's because I'm not busy at work, and has little to do with the model's level of experience.

To be or not to be.THAT IS THE QUESTION. It really is simple. Whatever the photographer and model agree. There is no rule. Sometimes even the best Models/Photographers work TF because it is something they want to do.

....For what it's worth, I think that higher levels of photography, such as topless, artistic nude or above, should never be offered TF, regardless of a models potential (in-)experience. What inevitably happens is shit photographers will expect to shoot models in a varying state of undress and produce awful results that look crap on everyone's portfolio. So in fact there are some styles of shooting that really ought to be paid no matter how much experience a model has...

One would like to think that if a model were approached by a 'shit photographer' asking to shoot on a TF basis (irrespective of levels), the model would say 'no'.

The Portrait Cowboy said, 1726743931

Huw Okay so I see what's happened. I had meant to say that models shouldn't offer nudity for TF on their portfolio notes. If they then want to arrange something of the sort, especially if they have nothing in their portfolio in the styles they want to shoot in, they could consider approaching a good photographer to arrange a collaboration, or dare I say it pay for a shoot with a quality photographer, to ensure that the start of their journey into the varying levels of photography is well represented on their portfolio. But at this point this is almost a separate topic.

From a photographer's perspective, no - I wouldn't suggest anyone should have the expectation of shooting higher levels of photography on a TF basis.

In fact, having the expectation that any model should shoot TF with them at any level is an entitled attitude, and won't serve a photographer well. I don't think there's anyone on PP who is good enough to think they're above paying for shoots under the right circumstances.

But I'm going to put all this rhetoric back in the opinion bottle and put the lid on. Honestly, it's like ketchup - once it's open and it's given just a few taps it all pours out and then you're having to scoop it all back up again 😂
