m71 I’d argue against that every day of the year. The quality of the filming, maybe, but the writing and the guys in it? Still amazing…

Likewise with Bottom. Not as much with Catflap though

Filthy Rich and Catflap had one of the best ever dirty jokes. After a sequence of (as usual in sitcoms) unlikely things happening some of the characters find themselves stuck in the Nolan Sisters' dressing room. One remarks,"Wow my favourite three-tissue fantasy. I am stuck in the Nolan Sisters' dressing room."

The Magic Roundabout was awesome. Apparently the films were sent over from France with no translation. So the chap who did the voice-over made up the story from what he was seeing. Sometimes this resulted in two stories at the same time.

My favourite line was when Dougal the dog approached Dylan the rabbit (snoozing under a tree) and said, "I thought rabbits were meant to be running about and jumping and stuff."
To which he got the answer, "Like, we're re-thinking the image, man." !!!

It fascinating how much stuff is available on DVD from then and earlier. Look on Amazon.

The Magic Roundabout voiceover and script was Eric Thompson, Dame Emma’s dad….

Thanks for that, Carlos. I should have remembered and credited him. Wonderful stuff.

I agree, I’m a big fan….my student tea times!  He did it for 7 years but was so recognisable voice-wise at the end that his acting career took a severe hit.  He directed a bit but died quite young …late forties or early fifties I think.  By contrast his wife Phydilla Law is still going strong…..

I don't do snowflake pc crap so loved Steptoe and Son, Till Death us do part, Love Thy Neighbour etc. Porridge a classic too along with Rising Damp. So many great shows in the 70s.

Today repeats of many of these programs have words beeped out. I hate the pc crap message at the start of such programs when repeated. Usually along the lines of "This programme reflects the views and standards of the day, which some viewers may find offensive". I am sorry but most people who watch these repeats were around at the time they were first shown. If you weren't and don't like when you watch then you have a remote control to turn off or switch over.

The Sweeney was good too, and even The Streets of San Francisco was entertaining.

Modern day TV is mostly fly on the wall documentaries or dancing, cooking or makeover shows. Cheap to make crap. Not even good variety shows like Live from Her Majesty's or The Palladium. Hang on, they cost money to make don't they? Even BGT is cheap to make really as a good chunk of the series is made up of auditions. Only the winner gets the prize and many of them go into obscurity after a few years.

Sorry rant over!

The only man who looked good with long hair was Bjorn Borg. Luckily for us Punk killed off all the long hair, but Borg then had to retire...

A R G E N T U M . Can’t agree with you.  I looked pretty good with hair past my shoulders (very Charles II) …….but seriously Robert Plant (of Led Zeppelin) looked fantastic with long hair.  I’m sure others can come up with many more examples.  Short hair - along with punk itself - is over rated IMHO.

Fair enough - but Robert Plant looks like a cross between Charles II and Catweazle 😁      "Long haired layabouts" lol 😂😂

Hong Kong Phooey - poor/simplistic animation but clever humour and an excellent voice cast led by Scatman Crothers of The Shining and the Aristocats fame.

Wow !  mind blown  !

The 1970's made me.  I found my choice of music from early Glam Rock and Discovering Waylon Jennings.  Country Music was never the same.  The football was honest and sometimes brutal.  Watching the F A Cup final at 3pm on a Saturday was a treat, not an afterthought.  I am a Gooner so 1971 was special however one of the best finals I watched was the Leeds Chelsea games in 1970.  Hoe Eddie Mc Creadie stayed on the pitch is anyone's guess.  The Cinema produced some great films.  Jaws, Star Wars & Python's Holy Grail.  There were others, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Three Days of the Condor and many more.  Clothes were fun until my pet dog Dino pulled me off a wall in my 4 inch stacks.  Caused a deep gash in my right wrist (which is still there).  I think the super markets were just taking off as well. Presto, Gateway and Mace were a few I can remember.

The other thing I remember was that you had to be posh to own a phone.  I had to walk 10 minutes to get to a call box (which wasn't vandalised) and in the mid 70's my first car was a Morris 1000 Traveller. Cost £65.  Good days but they had their faults as well.  Racism was rife but we were ignorant at the time.  One of my fav TV progs was "It Aint Half Hot Mum". At least petrol was cheap until 1979.
