How YOU can help Ukraine

FiL there's only young people with VPN on their phones that will have a clue what's going on. Older people have been watching state TV for years peddling lies about terrorists In Ukraine.

Another revolution in Russia isn't simply a choice between supporting Putin bombing civilians and not

Accepting censorship and using it as an excuse for doing nothing is not good enough. They may be accustomed to lies, rhetoric and censorship but that doesn't mean they fail to recognise it when they see it. I certainly don't accept that the significant majority of Russian people, young or old, are so stupid as to not be aware of what their government is doing in their name.

One of the advantages of isolating them from every sporting event is that it should become obvious to the Russian people something unpopular is going on

FiL I'm not sure you're considering just how engrained the propaganda is. Right now chat shows are discussing how imagery from Ukraine of Russian casualties is fake. Any media outlets disagreeing are now swiftly banned. There's been this total control of the media for decades now. It's a different planet. No it isn't obvious to most they are being fooled

Do you think that will be enough to galvanise them into action though, and soon? I doubt it personally. Empty cash dispensers might help focus their minds a little. Troops who won't be coming home too. Those troops who do eventually make it back will be armed with accounts to share. I wonder how much it will ultimately take to rouse a bunch of dozy bears - if at all.

Dr Andrey Kortunov certainly seems to recognise the gravity of the consequences for Russia, and suggested many other Russians including some in the Kremlin do too. He described the situation as depressing and he believes the best possible outcome now for Russia is a ceasefire and a withdrawal of troops from Ukraine followed by negotiations with the West. He also had no hesitation in confirming that he believed Putin will be seriously considering his nuclear options. Let's hope that Kortunov and others like him choose to actually do something about it instead of simply lamenting their depression.

At the moment ‘the big give’ is getting matched funding for donations, there is a small fee/donation to the organisers but one can opt percentage, gift aid is included as well, so a £50 donation ( costing the donor £55) would total £125 to the fund.
