The Idle Rocks in St Mawes - https://idlerocks.com/ - Fabulous location overlooking the Percuil River and towards Falmouth.  An average hotel/restaurant wouldn't do well in St Mawes - House prices are ...HIGH  ;-)

Price is not an issue Mike because it is OUR anniversary so HE is paying :D

Edited to add: Oh wow, that does look nice. Can you get a ferry across from Falmouth to save having to drive all the way around?

Just checked - See https://www.falriver.co.uk/ferries/st-mawes-ferry/timetable but it looks like the last ferry from St Mawes back to Falmouth is at 18:00.   8D.  However, the timetable suggests if you miss the last ferry, then there is a St Mawes Water Taxi ( they give a mobile number) but I suggest checking the cost before deciding ... of course, just remember it is a hotel as well. ;-)

We booked a table for 18:30 so might be able to go by ferry but won't be able to get back :). We already thought about the hotel but if the water taxi is more expensive than their rooms I'll be very surprised :D

the nare hotel, veryan in roseland. beautiful tranquil setting by the sea and top notch everything else. I'm not sure if the dining is open to non residents but its an amazing place, you will not be disappointed. good luck!

I second that suggestion of the Nare Hotel - had lunch there about 4 months ago as a non-resident.  Lunch is a reasonable cost, evening dinner is ... not so reasonable.  Website at https://www.narehotel.co.uk/

A word of warning about the "Water Taxi" - I saw the initials RIB somewhere in relation to the Water Taxi and RIB means a Rigid Inflateable Boat which is a fibreglass hull at the waterline and below - inflateable rubber bouyancy tubes above the water line, no cover/cabin.  It will be a fast crossing but late in the evening in October??  Rain?  Cold?  Spray?  See this page:

https://www.falriver.co.uk/see-and-do/st-mawes-kayaks-water-taxi

8D  That is the Water Taxi!!

Mike Lyne glad to hear its open to non residents for restaurant bookings. I thought so but wasn't sure. I was thinking lunch also, as a sort of "introduction" to the place. bit of a drive to get there but absolutely worth it for a memorable occasion and experience.

Just wanted to say thank you to all the suggestions here. Some of the places we tried:

  • The Idle Rock - superb elegant restaurant with very good food, relaxed atmosphere and amazing views. Special thanks to Mike Lyne for suggesting it. My partner mentioned to them that it was our anniversary so they sat us at the front overlooking the sea as the sun went down and brought a little surprise at the end of the meal. Their macaroons are the best we've ever tasted.
  • The Rising Sun in Truro - Without a doubt the best Sunday Roast I've ever tasted, so far.
  • The Cafe at Lizard Point - thanks to Orson Carter for the suggestion. The seafood was lovely.
  • Twisted Current in Porthleven- Fantastic Cornish Creme Tea (warm scone, home made jam, clotted cream and the perfect cup of tea served properly).

We didn't have time to try all the suggestions but we will undoubtedly go back and try some more.

Thanks for the feedback - pleased you had a good time.  Did you use the WEater Taxi that was a RIB or did you make other arrangements to get back across the Fal River?
