Remembrance Day

I have just arrived back home from Remembrance day at the Horse Guards parade. I have no military experience. I find it very moving, from the 2mins silence. Where the guns fire to start the silence. Then the parade by the ex veterans.
All very touching, watching the veterans. Catch up with old friends and comrades.

I think of my two grandfathers on a regular basis. Both were "Desert Rats" in WW2.
Of the two, my Dad's dad did not come back from the war. But my mother's father did.
During my childhood he spent many an hour chatting to me about the War and about "Life the Universe and everything"
My grandfather was a wise man and I learned a lot from him.
In one particular conversation my grandfather told me that he had four uncles who were all at the Battle of the Somme.
I must do some family history investigation to find out more about this.
