Soundtrack from the film Betty Blue  - one of my favourite films (huge fan of French cinema from the 80s and 90s). Reminds me of running from rep cinema to rep cinema trying to cram as many films as possible into a day. London in the 80s (so fun - maybe it's just my age showing)

โ€œiโ€™ve got keys coming from overseas

cost a nigga 200 Gsโ€

An incredible track with a beat that i coud listen to forever. The beat is, itself a sped-up sample from kool and the gangโ€™s track winter sadness from 1975. The 70s are the golden years of so many types of music and black american music - RnB, disco, funk, jazz were all so interwoven. Kool and the gang were (like so many that turned their hand to disco, funk, etc) originally a proto-jazz outfit. As a result, the music they turned to continued to benefit from the origins of the players in classical and jazz. Witness Barry White and his amazing orchestral arrangements.

The track itself is a taunt from Tupac to his detractors and to his erstwhile friends in prison to try ti imagine him living large in his 500 benz. Itโ€™s a haunting song because its triumphalism (like OJ, you canโ€™t stop me) is belied by the fact that they did, indeed, stop him. Ultimately though he does triumph as the song ends with the lines

Any time y'all wanna see me again
Rewind this track right here, close your eyes
And picture me rollin'

and it works, you do picture him triumphant.
