What am I listening to? I have just listened to gravitas' choice, and strange to say, I quite enjoyed it!
for the first time?
then i heartily recommend the following 2 - perhaps his most tuneful recordings

you are welcome. i had never heard of leon redbone either - a very different groove (i liked him - reminded me somewhat of tom waits). someone else you may like is j j cale.
at the mo i'm listening to some township jive from south africa. i was transported there by malcom maclaren's double dutch which was based on township jive. south africa has a deep, broad musical (as well as dance and theatre) culture and its pop music (especially the stuff from before hip hop started to have an influence) is designed to move your feet immediately. though i know of it, i hardly know any of it - today i discovered the boyoyo boys listening first to puleng which then took me on to a track called boyoyo no. 5 by T. Bones (isn't youtube wonderful?) - a brilliant example of the wonderful way that south africans mixed their traditional rhythms with jazz - sublime!
