joining late but - I would advise going later in the year. Much of Iceland is closed off during the winter and some parts are only accessible at the end of the summer - when I went it was the end of June / start of July and you still couldn't get to some of the places. So if you want to go, but not in the height of summer, look for September /October.

Brilliant place though, I have a long standing promise to go back.

I shared the costs with 7 other people, we hired 2 cars and stayed in shared accommodation about 4 hours east of Reykavik.  It was a great base for exploring the south, but be prepared for a lot of driving. Total cost was around 500-600 pounds for 6 days ( 2 days were travelling, so we had 4 days shooting/exploring.  You can see the images on my port, we had a great time but it was quite exhausting shooting every day, next time I'd take it a bit easier I think.  Weather sealed lenses and cameras are a big help:)

I might be interested in going again, not sure at the moment though.  We went in October and it was bloody cold:)

Yeah I would expect it being hard work. I'm worried about my cheepy Nikon D5300 to freeze to death so might need to plan for March then. My friend went she said that she was constantly driving as well! I'm very exited tho)

Probably don't need to worry if you take some precautions to protect the camera in the cold.  I used a D5200 in -23 C this past winter.  The camera worked well in general terms, the pics came out fine, but the LCD had problems from the cold.  It kind of blanked out and then the colours 'ran' like an out of tune analogue telly.  But it recovered once I had it in warmth.  However, I cannot stress enough the importance of opening your kit and leaving the camera standing in a dry warm place for a couple of hours before you even try to use it once in doors.  You need to give time for the condensation to evaporate; otherwise, you risk causing problems with the electronics.  HTH.

Would love to join you but will have to give it a pass this time.  :)
