You can redo it I think. like Emily share a shoot take 2 or something. We would love to see the whole thing!

This site is on some ancient engine, I can't even delete a post

It's not an "ancient" engine - it was custom written for the site, including features which would not have been available if some generic engine had been used.

You did as was suggested - created a new post with more pictures (here) - but letting users delete their own posts would result in more angst than it's worth.  If you really want it deleted - and if it's not going to lose contributions from other members, you can raise a support ticket and ask Admin to do so :)

There are plenty of times when I'll disagree with Russ over PP features or design, and will say so, but in this regard I firmly believe that he has it right.

I'd guess that nothing can be deleted by users, it might get hidden but no regular user will have delete permissions on the database tables I doubt.

Indeed.  Even the Admin function of sinbinning the post simply moves it to an inaccessible group.

Sensual Art never knew that but possibly for legal purposes it makes sense.

Ok, thanks for the explanation.

Thank you so much! It made a lot of sense to open a new one and it makes sense to keep the posts and not let the users just delete it. I agree on all point!

It's to protect the database from hacking

It does feel like an old forum UI though. I don't like the reply function which on a desktop includes all of the replied to post within your post. On a mobile it just includes the persons name and then you type, but no one knows what you are replying to unless you copy and paste to quote the person you are replying to. I'd prefer that replies were tabbed to the right under the post it is being replied to, then the entire post repositioned to the end because of the reply. Sometimes it feels like you are reading the quoted replied to post over and over, so my way would reduce duplicated/quoted replied to text considerably.

Also I have no idea why there is a need anyone to edit the source of your post I'd remove that. For me personally I would only allow images on PP to be inserted into the post and only those images you own on your profile for copyright reasons, posting other peoples images may cause an issue for the person posting and potentially the site.

Deleting posts, this could make reading posts difficult to understand if some delete what they say. Though sometimes I wish I didn't bother saying something, if it was Groundhog Day the next day I certainly wouldn't bother writing the same rubbish a second time :-)

I don't use this site very often, mainly because every time I go here I feel like I'm on a site from the late 90s, the functionality of many features is strange and inconvenient. The rest of the internet, internet forums, social media etc. allow you to delete posts, opening a ticket to delete a post? Sorry, I'm too busy 😁

Please raise these side issues in a new post, rather than risk going off the original topic.  However, search the groups for the word threaded so you can refer back to prior discussions which talked about it :)

The Etiquette in the groups article suggests it's better to pause and reflect before posting rather than risk regretting it the next morning.  Oh, if only more of us heeded that (he said, avoiding all eye contact with anyone!)

If it crosses a line, Admin will quickly enough bury it, but otherwise it's the "tomorrow's chip paper" thing :)

Are you talking specifically about the groups?  Or do you have other aspects of the site which also contribute to your "late 90s" comparison?

Russ's own statistics have shown that only a tenth of PP members use the groups at all, even to lurk, and the Pareto principle then also applies, so in fact groups are only posted to by one in fifty members.

If it's specifically about deleting posts, then the rationale has been outlined above.

If it's about anything else, please feel free to raise a new post (perhaps in the Bugs, Errors and Suggestions group) to suggest improvements :)
