Would I recognise my own work?

I don't think I've ever discussed preparations for a shoot. Put food, drink, towels, spare warm clothing into the Landrover; collect model. Assume model knows she's going to get naked and sit on a rock.
Probably wouldn't be great at shooting fashion for that reason. ;)

I shoot in studios, houses, out and about and in the big wide world.
And for me, seeing how I feel, what the light is like, how the model is feeling, and what sort of stuff I have with me is the way forward.
If the shoot is going to be limited for some reason and the model is new to me , I sometimes take some images to act as catalysts and I will use those to a greater or lesser extent.
My preferred way of shooting though is to react in the moment.

I agree. Maybe people are scared to do that? Taking yourself out of your work is also not easy to do.

I have no idea what you mean

You haven’t come across the expression of ‘climbing on the tigers back’ it means you’re ok as long as you’re there but you can’t ever get off as it will eat you. Same with ‘style’ if you’re forcing a style- mannerism onto every image.

I can only speak for myself re prep of a shoot.
I tend to find that the Photographers who want to prep beforehand when especially it is regarding wardrobe, don't have the same idea as myself and I don't have the kind of clothes they are imagining. They often have a location in mind but the clothes make no sense there. There are exceptions obviously, but I prefer to let them choose location and I sort out the wardrobe. I don't always want to tell this to them, so I keep the communication minimal and keep it to time of meeting...

Oh, you know how to frame an image, so can do fashion. It's a bit different for sure, because the clothing itself is the focus, but you know what you're doing 😊😀

MaristarOxley it's why I feel you have to work together. I tend to look at what the model wears and build around that. I'm getting more..adverse to the whole "just bring some stuff and we'll decide on the day!"
This year with most of my shoots I've passed on a document about the shoot. Stuff I want them to bring etc. and as I'm narrowing myself in terms of volume of sets on shoots, lighting arrangements etc I'm finding it easier for both parties.

I am afraid I am anti labels and find most of the ones used to describe work on here like applying a throttle or barrier to go outside.
I probably have about six ingredients that will be probably somewhere in my images but you will need to have shot with me to spot them as they are a reason why I do something.
I have an interest in everything that goes into an image including clothing. Most of the outfits used are mine because I know the story or look I am particularly wanting to create and it means I can shoot the best way I want with the right model.
I would probably say my shoot style has far more in connection with creating a 1 minute set piece in a movie but on a tiny budget where all the roles are performed by just me and the model. I drift further and further from all the theories on purpleport each shoot I do.
I am only looking for models who can fit in that environment. If they want me to leave traditional stuff like outfits to them or will do it without embracing it, then I have the wrong model.
I know what I want and I am sure I could come up with a catchy term to signal it but that would be as meaningless as art nude or glamour which are used to describe almost everything on here

That would be “fashion nude” then.
Place a casting and wait for the flood of applications.

Huw another meaningless term.
Some of them I guess add a bit of respectability to those that need it. The only time you would see a director ask for art nude or fashion nude in a movie would be for comedic effect or to look ridiculous

I suppose I do have a certain style but describing it is hard. Looking at my pictures i see a distinctive compilation of studio confinements, lighting limitations, processing coincidences, peculiar compositions and a general lack of savoir vivre. That said, the specific combination of those does make a certain style.

Exactly.
Too many meaningless terms.
That’s why I prefer “naked chicks on rocks”.

Oh, I definitely don't like when Photographers say, just bring clothes. That's at best lazy
Because I'm a model as well, I am doing the clothes and styling as models only have a limited wardrobe these days, unless they are obsessed with Fashion and I mean Fashion, not clothes. Even with shooting guys, I bring their clothes, which can be women's garments. They have never refused to wear the pieces 😀

It was successful. There's a story there. Many of my unplanned shoots become my favourite ones
