Do you think you create original work?

Not really. But I do feel my work differs from many on here.
Yeah. I mean I think my work is, in places, different from the consensus here. But that's just 'cos I'm stealing from different people to everyone else.

Only yesterday I shared this with someone else:
I think photography is like writing. Any word one can think of has been written already, just like any photo that we make (or you can think of) has already been made by someone else.
It is just the different twist or specific detail that you put in it, or more importantly the pleasure you get when you take it, that makes it your photo.

You know the old quote "This work is places good and original. Sadly the places where it is good, it is not original, and the places where it is original are not good"
If I do something I haven't seen before, someone else has probably done it. Far more likely something (or things) I can't remember seeing is shaping my thoughts. Even if combine things in ways I haven't seen them combined - the same applies.
Why worry ? It's done for fun, something that's a copy, a homage to, or in the style of , if it is something you like is a success, surely?

Allesandro B very sorry, I had marked the post as NSFW, which should not have affected the rest of the thread.

Plus "get your ideas from 1 place and it's plagiarism, get them from a lot of places, and it's research".

Tom Lehrer said something like that :-)

i would love to think so but in reality it tends to be images that inspire me. i then try desperately to not just copy it.

I don’t think any of my work is completely original—photography, like all art, is influenced by what's come before. But I do try to tell a story with each image, something that makes you stop and think. Some of my photos, like the ones on my profile, are about that deeper emotional connection.
At other times, when the lighting and pose just click, it’s really about capturing the beauty of the female form in its purest sense. And that’s perfectly fine too. It’s all about finding the balance between telling a story and celebrating beauty as it is.

I did a set of photos for a ballet school.
There was one picture which really stood out for me, and I made sure it was on top of the pile when I went around to the principal's house to show her my work.
"Imagine my surprise" when I was invited into her living room and came face to face with the same photo already framed on her mantelpiece...

Probably not, my main reason for my photography is meeting new people and creating some beautiful art

I don't feel at all, that my work is original. I do see my work and there's a clear style that I create, which comes from a mixture of influences from photographers I admire. For me, the goal is to somehow get to a place where people can recognize the images as taken by myself.

A selfie of me with a pair of boxing gloves on my feet, balancing a coconut on my head, wearing a Victorian ruff, holding a teddy bear in my left hand, Penny, my rubber chicken in my right hand. Lit by gel lights and edited in the painterly style of Rembrandt! 💁🏼♂️ Beat that! 😂😂
Damn, you've nicked my shoot plan for the weekend 😁😀

I want to be original by experiment around but it's hard to free myself from all the visual and sensory input which shaped my vision as well my mental structure. From the equipment we use to the model's movement/posing patterns, everything is baked into its existence and limitations. From the language we use to the patterns in our brain, we can't really create anything 100% original. I am even stealing from my own past images all the time.
That said, I don't follow other people's work and not really keen on repeating someone else's imagination. I have enough imagination myself and I think at least some of my work "reflects" it.
