Be honest- Do you love your own photography?

Gothic Image I’m not even sure that levels are that much of a factor. My intuition is that self-shot BLBP pays a lot better than GWC-shot.
As with all things involving people, the right incentives make all the difference and if someone is struggling to get what they want out of someone else, they need to look at what incentives they’re offering first.

Thank you so much. There are not many here who say they love their work. But most do like their pictures.
I agree, that it's expensive, and any hobby is expensive. It's about your priorities.

Ah - I was referring to when people say they can't find models, when they actually mean they can't find nude models.

It's more common than we imagine. The doubts stay and eats away in our heads.
I suffer from thinking both self doubt and thinking I'm bloody great at photography. My bloomin' brain hurts all the time 😬

Thanks for your input.
I don't particularly question myself, because I do like my shoots. Any images I don't think works, gets deleted. I do try to learn, if I feel I didn't do something the way I imagined.

Living in a modelling black hole (no logins in the last 30 days within 5 miles, 3 if I push that out to 10), the vast majority of models within a reasonable radius list nude as a shoot style. There are even a few who don’t list it but shoot nude on a discretionary basis. Not many in their early twenties if that’s a proclivity.
I did have to laugh at one model who says in her profile notes she will only shoot nude with photographers who have evidence that they have shot nude several times recently - somehow I doubt she wants to see a bunch of dad bod selfies :-D

I suffer from imposter syndrome- I think it’s quite common…
”why did that shoot have to be nude - would it have worked clothed - am I just a GWC?” Etc etc

FWIW I think these are reasonable questions to ask yourself and answer.
I personally find that this thought process really helped me refine my art nude work in a way that I am very much happier with, and I find that I can show my female friends without fear of misunderstanding, because as I'm sure you've found while dealing with it, once you clarify what that question means to you, it really really shows in your work.

That question deserves a Thread all to itself. It's a very interesting one. 👍🏽👍🏽

I can certainly think of examples where adding lingerie drastically alters the meaning of an image - pratting about in the woods naked is a return to nature, doing so in lingerie suggests dogging ;-)
I can also see how a radical feminist pep talk could be considered level pushing, so there’s that too.

I can honestly say that’s a question I have never asked myself.

Elegantly written and very accurate…. I may borrow that for my “artistic statement” on my portfolio notes.

I go with Huw here.
I don't analyse the motivation for nude or anything else.
It is just what springs to mind at that moment in the shoot.
Following on from the comment on strange places to shoot lingerie, I must say that I often see images posted on PP that are very strange in their choice of location and dress.

It wasn't so much the strange location, more an example of "why did that shot have to be nude?" - well because the alternative is inherently far more sexualised.
The same thing would apply to a milk bath shot, nobody washes wearing their underwear so the implication is very different from nude.
There's also a wider discussion about the semiotics of post-fertility peak models that Huw briefly touched on a few pages ago.
