The Nude Genre

It's a pleasure to read so many positive comments about nude art. I enjoy painting and drawing female nudes and the models seem to enjoy working with me. Since that's two people who are happy with what we're doing, further analysis seems unnecessary.

The bit in bold is absolutely my mantra. Why do we think it is our "right" to judge people for who they are, if they don't harm anyone in any way. How can nudity be a problem is beyond me.

Drifting slightly off subject, I remember being bowled over when FloX started modelling on PP.

Although she was an "anonymous model" her attitude to using her body and light to express so many emotions and intense sexuallity came as a breath of fresh air and blew the dust away from so many dark corners.

What a beautiful reflection on your journey with nude modeling! It’s inspiring to hear about your evolving relationship with the genre, especially as you've come to embrace it on your own terms. The way you approach it—with a focus on trust, respect, and genuine artistry—really resonates with me.

There's a world of difference between the depth of art nude and the surface-level appeal often found in “sexy” or “erotic” photography. For me, art nude goes far beyond traditional ideas of beauty or seduction—it’s about revealing the essence of the person and exploring the interplay of light, shadow, and form. This kind of photography has a timeless quality, focusing on something intrinsic rather than trying to evoke a specific reaction from the viewer.

So much of "sexy" or "boudoir" work can feel, for lack of a better word, posed or contrived. It can miss the mark in capturing the depth of the human spirit, often fixated on aesthetics rather than emotion. Art nude, on the other hand, allows both the model and photographer to explore vulnerability and strength without the distractions of sensual tropes.

There’s something incredibly powerful in creating images that feel raw and honest, rather than crafted to meet societal standards of “sexy.” It becomes an art form rooted in authenticity and freedom, not just attraction. I think that’s why, I feel so much more drawn to the art nude genre, its power lies in simplicity and truth, which are infinitely more compelling to me.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and journey! It’s always wonderful to meet a model who shares this view and approaches the work with such a grounded, thoughtful mindset.

Absolutely love this! Flo X is pure artistry—her work is phenomenal! I can’t believe she’s based so close to me; I'm practically kicking myself for not booking a shoot with her already. Need to make it happen ASAP!

I think art nude can be beautiful! i haven't shot it much as haven't 100% comfortable to be nude. That is my issue no one else's.

Right now, i do odd images with a few photographers because i feel comfortable. And if it suits eg burford manor suited art nude.

Although next year i might dip my toe back in the water.

People’s attitude to nudity….

If I can’t print it big and put it on a wall, I don’t shoot it.
Wife and daughters like my photos, other opinions are less important.

Working for US Government in North Carolina in 1985 I had an exhibition in a gallery in Chapel Hill and invited my bosses. Very much Bible Belt in those days. Went fine.

I've begun dabbling in art nude this year.

I always had an interest in trying it out eventually, but was keen to avoid creating the kind of shots where it seems like the priority was having a nude model rather than actually creating something of worth. So i waited until I felt confident enough in my abilities to do that.

I'll probably do more at some point, but it's not something I want to shoot all the time.

It is good to have had so many models respond to this thread.

If you are going to do it you must enjoy it and be able to relax during the shoot.

If you don't, it shows.

Particularly when a model is starting out and to some extent always, it is I think, very necessary to shoot with a photographer that you have absolute confidence in....as Holly makes clear in her initial statement.

All the other downsides can only be assessed by the model.

As a photographer however, many of my friends and acquaintances imagine that I lead a life of unbridled, rampant sex.

All the models I tell this to laugh just a little to merrily!!!

Don't your friends realise how difficult it would be to hold the camera steady.

Ironically (or perhaps not), this is pretty much why I don't shoot art nude.

The Ghost

I was meaning the model not the photographer but it does matter equally.
