I had a really lovely photoshoot today and a talking point got me thinking ...
I've been doing way more art nude jobs this year than ever before and I enjoy the nude genre so much! But although I did model nude since I started modelling 16 years ago, I was extremely picky with it and only shot it very occasionally with friends. Throughout my 20s I was a bit terrified of modelling nude. What will people think? It's judged on by some people in this industry, let alone people who aren't in the photography world.
On one hand it's a shame because my body was SO much better back then!!! However, part of me is glad I had my guard up when I was younger. I didn't know what my future career may be, what if it was something that having nude images out there would ruin? Luckily that's not the case, I have a very good position in a company and a fantastic career - my dream job in fact and one that I'm very proud of, and luckily me being open about my modelling has never been an issue. But I didn't know that 10 years ago.
I am also a lot better at knowing who to work with, and who not to work with, so that makes me feel a lot safer about working as a nude model too. It's a very vulnerable position to be in after all and requires a massive amount of trust and respect.
Being older also puts me less at risk of certain individuals who just want some "fresh meat" and get first dibs on a model shooting nude - rare I know but it does happen unfortunately.
So overall, even though my body is older now, I am enjoying modelling nude more than ever. Yes of course I enjoy all the other genres I work in, beauty, fashion and lingerie are all so much fun but I've always loved those. I guess I've just got a new found love of nude being in my mid 30s and it got me wondering:
Models, what do you enjoy about nude modelling? Alternatively, why do you not do it?
Photographers, same questions.
There is no right or wrong as we all enjoy different things, I just shared my journey with the genre and would love to here some others.
