Should I Start My Own "Arty" YouTube Channel?

Should I start my own YouTube channel? This is something I am thinking about lately.

If I did, would anybody be interested in my content? Of late, I've seen several vids that tell me that it might be interesting, "fun", and perhaps even modestly rewarding to do so (to help pay for
a model shoot or two perhaps?). If I did, then what sort of content would I be bringing to the table?

Well, I suppose it would be mostly an art "how to" type channel (It's all I really know apart from British birds, a bit of history, and life in general (but we all know that, don't we, haha!).

I've never really taught art to anybody except my children, but I think I could demonstrate my methods clearly to anybody, regarding figurative drawing and painting techniques (mostly oils/acrylics, but digital too if anybody asked).
I will be 72 in January, so how long my channel might run, cannot be predicted (indeed the vids might stop suddenly one day without warning haha!) but I've had a fun life, in which I lived off my skills for a time. I say skills rather than "talent" as I've always believed that what I do is not some "God given" talent, but rather a set of tricks/techniques that anybody could pick up with a little practice, and I do mean anybody!
These videos no doubt would require some careful planning and I don't have any clear ideas as yet but I would interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this matter. Any thoughts at all?
Anybody already running a YouTube channel? And if you are, are you enjoying the ride?

Just do it and see

At least mildly interesting.

Is YouTube the best or only route?

Painting and how-to might make a viable channel. Really the only way to find out is to do it. You need to figure out how you're going to get viewers, and now many make it worth doing.

I would find that interesting, more so for digital work than oils/acrylics

It’s quite fun, but please don’t get sucked into producing videos to a schedule and lapsing into all those YouTube cliches.

The I’m a serious content creator’ mindset, (with all that cringey pandering, PLEASE LIKE this video, & SUBSCRIBE to my channel’ & ‘Buy me a coffee’, coloured strip lights in the background, vacuous background music playing whilst you’re talking.) 😜

I feel my one word answer doesn’t really get across my sense of feeling about your question. There are of course many nuances to the argument, and different variables to be taken into consideration. For these reasons I have decided to expand my answer somewhat. My full response is given below:

Absolutely yes.

Thanks everybody - I am (cautiously) encouraged! I think to make my channel become of any real value to anybody wishing to learn drawing/painting, shall require some serious (up front) thinking and planning on my part regarding its structure, so that I might outline my thinking processes as logically as I possibly can. Figurative drawing is really about seeing the world in perhaps a slightly different way (analytical of line, tone and colour) than (although I don't really know) other people who might not be doing so quite as habitually as me.

Timmee, thanks. I shall avoid those things you point out, but Danny, do you think lip fillers could up my views?

I would be interested in this content! As an avid YouTube watcher (rather than an actual creator) maybe it helps to know what I value most on those channels I regularly watch are: Being authentic and real, Share interesting and ‘different’ content (and yours sounds like this could be the case!) and regular uploads (The issue with only uploading very, very rarely means YouTube probably wont show me your content plus Im selfish - if I like a channel, I want to see more!) :)

As an example, two of my favourite YouTube channels are Gary eats and Atomic Shrimp. Down to earth likable guys with enjoyable content that make my day every time I watch them.

No idea if this is helpful but it is all I have to offer haha! :)

As per Betteridge's law of headlines; No.

Chop chop....it won't do it itself.

...most probably - and as a long-term ad' free YT paid subscriber - not / no / nein.

Unless at 72 it would bring you 'joy'... which would be highly unlikely.

...Personally I'd watch at least 30-60 seconds of your first video though, if you linked it here and I saw that link.

Teach like you taught your kids -- that is, just do it for love -- and make a channel you don't expect anyone to watch. Resist any affectations and changes that make it more "viral". And just be joyful. If 100 people watch it and get something from it, that's a hundred people!

An example of what I mean: The 3D Pen Den!

She is incredible, eccentric, informative... I love these videos and I learned a surprising amount from them. It's like knowing an interesting friend with a niche talent and joy for it. Less than five thousand subscribers and it's the best information about how to use these things on Youtube.
