Image groups

Sensual Art

By Sensual Art, 1726938887

There are quite a few image groups here on PP, which serve much the same purpose as individual Collections or Albums, except that they outlive the person who created them, and of course they allow discussions on the topic.  We can often suggest our images for them (depending on how the group was set up) and of course we get to accept or reject the invitations to have our images added to them.  I find them another great way to share pictures which are related by some theme, much as keyword tags do.  They are then useful if I'm looking for inspiration to refine a particular idea I've had, and of course are always a wonderful place to find pictures and people I'd perhaps not encounter in other ways, and then share the love, even suggest for FPI if I think they meet that standard, and that all increases my visibility to those people :)

Over the last few months, I've been coming across a number of groups which had fallen stale, typically because the creator of the group has since left the site, so a support ticket has quickly had them transferred over to me, and I've been working through their respective backlogs of pending images.  The worst backlog I'd encountered until recently was a few hundred images, which I cleared at the rate of maybe a dozen or two per day, but a couple of groups have had backlogs over almost 10,000 :O (Someone else took over one of those other groups and had the task of working through them.  I have no idea how long that took them!)

However, it would be really nice to see new people joining these groups and adding their own (or other people's) images, so please take a look at any of these and see if it suits how you'd like to use the site.

I've never really gotten involved in the groups. A few of my images have been added to groups but it seems like groups are either really inactive, or they add every image they can find that fit a certain criteria. Which is absolutely fine if that's what the owner wants, but doesn't really provide a lot of value to anyone else.

That said, it does seem on paper like an idea that would be useful to be involved in, so if the groups you've suggested are being managed well (as I suspect they would be) then I'd be keen to give them a chance.

I'll give the ones you've posted a follow and thanks for raising the subject 👍🏻

Wait, we can get groups transferred over? I should really consider rescuing "Small and home studios" which I started ten years ago, and apparently has no active admins.

Go to the group, "report" it, and ask to reclaim it, given that it was you who created it under one of your previous accounts :)

I totally agree.  Some of the groups I see have questionable titles, and I can't imagine anyone else choosing to add their images to the group "for visibility", so it'd seem to be far more appropriate as a Collection than a group.  And of the ones I've taken over, I've taken the opportunity to re-scope them where I feel it improves the group.  For example, Two or more (non-nude) used to allow nudes, but there were disproportionately many low-quality images being added to it, images where I would question whether anyone other than the people in it would ever want to look at them, so I re-scoped it to be specifically non-nudes, though implied/covered nudity is still welcomed.  And, of course, I get to apply a degree of curation when it comes to approving new images.

On the other hand, Denim at its finest was initially called (as you can still tell from its URL) "Beauties in Denim", and had only allowed female models in denim, so I have re-scoped this to welcome submissions with male models.

I'm surprised that there's not (at least, not as far as I've been able to find when I've searched) a group specifically to discuss and showcase drone photography, but I guess there are too few drone owners on here to make one worthwhile, which is a shame, because I've enjoyed the few such pictures that I've taken, and would be encouraged to do more if I was among others who similarly used drones for model-related photography.

You know I've been messing around with the idea of a drone lately. I know the DJI Mini bypasses the need for licenses and qualifications, but the new one is a bit pricey. You've just reminded me I intended to look up the stats/info for the new selfie drone DJI has released for like £200 as that might be a reasonable entry level drone. If it takes raw images I'm basically guaranteed to purchase it heh.

There are some drone-based shots on PP - perhaps you could lead the revolution?

The DJI Neo (the new budget mini drone) does not, as it turns out, have RAW image capabilities.

Sensual Art   Great to see you taking an active interest to keep the groups alive although I have been taking quite a back seat on the site as I am not been active with shoots for a while.

I have 3 images currently in my Bodyscapes Album but only 2 are showing as part of the Bodyscapes group so I thought I would try adding the 3rd but can't see an option

After trying  to track why I couldn't add it I wonder if I submitted but the previous owner rejected it

Although it is more loose as a 'bodyscape'  as it includes arms, I feel it is still not too far way out so would like your opinion of it - I have not posted  the image in this discussion so as not to make this NSFW but you should be able to find it OK (middle of the 3 in my album)

As owner are you able to see if images have been rejected (although it is likely to be several years since I submitted it) ?

NigeNw found it, and yes, it's a great fit for the group, so I've invited it.

It's been nice to see the numbers of members of these groups grow over the past week or so, and people adding their images!

Come and join, and add any of your pictures.  Even better if there's discussion to be had on the subject.

I found a few more groups which were ownerless, and which were in need of a little attention, so please consider whether joining any of these might be beneficial to promoting your work, and come and join in:

I came across this one just now: https://purpleport.com/group/latex/

It's not got a lot of traffic (few images, no posts), but I think it could use a new owner.  Is there anyone with a specific interest in latex who'd feel like taking it over and promoting it?
