Shoot Playlist Essentials?

Hey there PP! Hope you're doing well. I'm currently putting together a playlist for a photoshoot and I would love to hear your top recommendations! Any favorite tunes that get you in the mood for a great shoot?

If I'd been doing model shoots in the 70s, when I was in my 20s, I might have slipped on the long playing record Imagine by John Lennon, but these days, as I slide into my dotage, I'm quite happy not to have any music. My hearing is not what it was and I like to hear what the model is saying. Nevertheless,if the model wishes to have some background music that is fine by me. Something cool, like a bit of Miles Davis, would be my preferred choice.

This year I've been altering the music dependant on the mood of the shoot that's trying to be achieved.

I like Rammstein,Slipknot  disturbed Marilyn Manson way to many to mention but usually a model that likes music is likely to bring her own music

This is such a hard question to ask as it really depends on the mood you're trying to create.......!!

If I am trying to go somewhere erotic and sensual then something like.... Earned It by the Weekend .... I put a spell on you by Annie Lennox ... I see Red by Everybody Loves and Outlaw...

Then if I am going upbeat and a bit strong fashion / fun ... Probably something like Gwen Steffani... Britney Spears... Maneater by Nelly Furtado.... Murder on the Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor... Born this way by Lady Gaga... Haha can't believe I am admitting this...!

Then if I am going for something deep and emotional... Well find something that takes you there.... I love a good acoustic mix for that... Free fallin by John Mayer... Skinny Love by Birdy...

You get my drift... Find something that YOU connect with and what you want to channel.... It'll be different for everyone IMO :)

I do however believe that music is an incredibly powerful tool with modelling and can help break awkward silences as well! ;)

It *really* depends on the model. No point in blasting death metal if they want to feel sexy to Cardi B. Sadly.

I much prefer silence tbh... most of my shoots are collaborative in nature so we're talking most of the time and that's invariably easier without a sound track competing for attention.

I've changed my mind: Russ Abbot's 'Atmosphere' on repeat.

Unless I'm shooting dance where it is integral then the music is low, background at best.

I usually go with the model's choice or just put on Radio 2.

If I played some of the more abstract music from my collection I would have models begging for mercy. My playlists tend be pretty vanilla in its content as it tends to unrecognisable background music played at lower volume.

Music is essential. Favourites with models: Beyonce, Earth Wind and Fire, Brand New Heavies, Liane La Havas, to name a few but by far the most popular is very little known band Missing Andy.

80's - think Duran Duran, Human League, Simple Minds etc. I find mixes from Rusty Egan are very cool...

Soul Weekender - think Luther Van Dross, Earth Wind & Fire etc...

Chillout...

No ROCK is EVER played (but that is my own personal preference)

I prefer silence but encourage the model to bring her own playlist.  It introduces me to artists and bands I may not know and gives the model as sense of ownership of the space/vibe.

I was once asked by a model if I had any Fleetwood Mac.  I said yes, know she probably meant Rumours.  For devilment I put the Band’s original hard-driving eponymous blues Album.  Horror ensued 😂😂.  I saved the day though as I also had Fleetwood Mac Mark (probably) IV or V in Rumours….karmic balance was restored.  But meantime I’d had a blast of some of my favourite blues men and tracks: My Baby’s Good To Me, Shake Your Moneymaker, Black Magic Woman etc….👍.

Give a free hand it would be all blues and (old-style Chicago, not Shola Ama) R&B: Fabulous Thunderbirds, Robert Cray, Paul Butterfield Blue Band, Electric Flag, Steamhammer, Savoy Brown, Chicago Transit Authority, Climax Blues Band, Chicken Shack, Allman Brothers Band et al.  I know, I know…a dinosaur but a happy one 😁😁😁😁

Usually model's choice and if they don't care we'll agree on a genre.

I agree, I think it's a great way of creating a good shooting atmosphere.  I probably talk too much so awkward silence is not so much of a problem!
