Hello All

So the batteries I have in my D800/810's are getting old and I'm thinking of starting to replace them for new ones , The official Nikon ones are 60 to 70 pounds , But Duracell

Do a en el15 Replacement for around 35 pounds , So the question is anyone using 3rd party batteries are they as good as the original ones ? , Would you recommend them ?

Thanks , Ian

IanClive I've got one.

Had no issues with it.

The Duracell battery... probably the best out of the batteries I have!

I have one.  If it were not for the label I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

I've bought various cheapos from a few brands the years.  I've an idea that after a while they don't retain their charge as long as the Nikons, but, to me at least, it's a non issue.

I always used cheaper 3rd party in my D750 and D850 but if you upgrade to a Z series mirrorless you may have problems. Only Nikon ones seem to work in my Z7

Not a Nikon owner but my experience with 3rd party batteries has been pretty good. Duracell is also a pretty trustworthy brand, so barring counterfeiting of their name, I'd trust their batteries as much as one made for a camera brand to stick its own label on.

Well I can't use my RAVPower batteries. Says they are incompatible. Must depend on make.

Duracell is an excellent make of battery and their DRNEL 15 is an excellent replacement for the ENL 15. There is a lower capacity of 1600mAh compared to 1900mAh for he ENL 15 as supplied by Nikon.

I'd vote for Baxxtar V1 Maxx Protect (exactly these).
Have a bunch of them in Canon LP-E6NH flavor, and they work
like the "originals", charge in the original charger and deliver
status information to the Canon R5C.

The R5C is probably the most picky camera on the market
regarding power sources, so there should be no problem
with the much older Nikon.

There are other Baxxtar batteries with similar names and lesser specs.

V1 Maxx Protect is what you are looking for.

I've been using these ones in my D780 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B072JVYGMC - brilliant batteries, no issues at all. The chargers they come with can be a little unreliable though.

I don't use Duracell ones after a bad experience using them in Canon mirrorless cameras, where they seemed to drain to zero within 10-15 minutes.

I have about 5 Nikon EN-EL15 from my D850 ans several Nikon chargers. I've sold a complete D850 already and have another for sale. Moved over to using two Z9s.

Watch out on 3rd party batteries, I heard reports in the past off camera firmware upgrades stopping the camera to communicate with the aftermarket battery.

Just out of interest, have you checked the actual life of the Nikon batteries?

I had mine for over 15 years and with regular cycling they didn't lose a lot of performance.
There is a Nikon charger that will optimise your batteries.

Personally, I'd invest in one of those and keep an OEM battery over a 3rd party battery any day..

But from this thread, I'm the only one..

I use actual Duracell batteries with complete confidence, my only caution would be to make sure you buy them from a reputable source, if it’s a really low price, it’s probably a fake and cheap imitation battery. (I speak from experience!)
