Models' fees

There's already a topic on the thread, avatar is not it.

i think a lot comes down to locality as well, for instance i can totally see how drastic a change in travel costs in  London would be but in a relatively small place like central Scotland its a totally different dynamic  but as i said i think at least on PP its a small independent market self managed, a busy model can charge more a model getting no work must charge less, self regulating

I'm looking at some point to do a duo or possible trio shoot. I know if it's a paid situation it may cost a fair bit. I do wonder if other photographers who have done trios are loaded or have been approached for tfp.

I turned down a GG duo three days ago - it's just not my 'thing'. I have no doubt the models concerned will find plenty of interest elsewhere though.

FiL you mean a tfp offer for duo? I know there's a well known Sussex duo who are both quality but I look to make a duo not done before.

There was no mention of any fees in the message but I guess some will argue it might have been a bait and switch. I've only had that happen to me once though, about 18 months ago and on this site.

I once made the mistake of assuming that a model who'd approached me wanted to be paid despite no mention of it in the message. That resulted in a right earful but it worked out OK in the end.

Thanks I was trying to find a post that covered that!

I wrote it to avoid being invited to read it.

Again.

And again.

Photographers with their images on their portfolio has no relevance to the topic.

Might be a good idea to stay on topic; if you want to start (yet *another*) thread on the subject of photographers self images, feel free ... otherwise it's a pointless deflection of this thread.

Please don't feel free, unless you can find an omission or error.

Michael_990 2 reasons why I don’t use my own face as an avatar 1. I’m a fat bearded 44 year old short man who is going bald so no one wants to look at that and 2. I think it’s good to show my work so people can see what o can do and use that to draw people in.

There is a photo of me on my profile so people can see what I look like.

That's in the article. Not as specific disparaging remarks, but in general and synopsis.

its not a dating site - both parties show what they (can do) in portfolio , if you need a photographer avatar image it would be the front end of a canon, Nikon or sony most likely, ...

That _could_ be explored further, but the core points there are in the article, and one of them recursively in the long compound sentence with narrative hook above.

Just checked the message and it's billed as a GG valentines shoot. I have no idea if that means the girls are a couple or if they wanted the images for their partners.

Those images, the first one especially, are so obviously AI.

The system has only been available as open beta for 8 months, and its not obvious that's rubbish, in a year or two years nobody will be able to tell the difference

this is the result of less than 8 months old technology, you say you can spot it a mile away i say nonsense. in a year - two years i will say impossible, it can be put in any location wearing absolutely any fashion, they've generated 4k video and the system adds flawed skin and hair etc, this is only the 4th gen, and its better than i could do and I've been taking pictures for a long long time

That one less so, the other one is so blatantly AI. I'm on mobile so I can't post it.

FiL it's a reference to the date of shoot being valentine's Day.

It's not less than eight months old technology. It's years of effort that led to it. And possibly a million dollars spent training it just on the compute time. And the VC money is being burned through.

The question is, what do you expect to actually happen in two years? Do you think high end fashion houses will use AI models? High end magazines? How will they get the AI models to wear the real physical clothes that were templated and then physically assembled by the designer and their team?

Fashion is based around editorial as much as it is marketing images, surely. Yeah, AI models are going to be indistinguishable, sure.  But the couture houses will still want actual real famous people to wear the clothes. Or they won't sell.

And they are hardly likely to distribute their designs in an easy digital form for random publications to wrap around their own AI models: there's little enough protection against design theft in the fashion industry as it is.

How did we suddenly go from the models wages, to it becoming the photographer avatar image? Who can I blame?

Blame me.

I tried to bring across the argument that a models face will be on the net forever,
and that these peronality rights must be compensated as well.

The photographer avatar image is just a side note to that, but some of the answers
corroborate my argument.

Feeling fat and ugly, fearing workmate bullying - things a model might also feel, but
waives when their photos go online. This has to be compensated, and it did not seem
that any of the previous contributors did consider this important.
All arguments circled around gym fees, nail polish, travel expenses - practically none
addressed personality rights.
