Atmosphere spray

We have one of those cheapie FXLab things. Had it for about 8 years. Inside the metal box, it's a reservoir, connected to a tiny electric kettle with a squirty nozzle at one end. Cost us £25 and works a treat.

We make our own "fog juice" comprising of 20% Boots "food grade" glycerol BP and 80% distilled water. That way we know what's in it. We open the main external doors and blow it outside as soon as we are done to avoid any residual deposits. In any event, the amount of fog juice we use is literally about 10-20ml per session and glycerol is water soluble. We also check that our models are not allergic to glycerol before deploying the machine for a shoot.

If you need to use your fogger or indeed any mains-powered kit away from mains electricity, then you could consider one of these too - though they are not cheap and consequently add significantly to your costs. This one stores a nominal 3.6 MJ (1 kWh), weighs about 12.5 kg and uses safe EV-grade LiFePO4 rechargeable cells.

With regard to setting off smoke alarms, I think pretty much all foggers will set off smoke alarms. Detecting small airborne particles is precisely what smoke alarms are designed to do. :-)

HTH :-)

Thanks guys, I’ll check it out and yeh, concerned about residue. The new Smoke Ninja looks pretty neat if you’ve not seen it but not cheap.

I've been tempted by it too. But also by the PiXAPRO/LENSGO SMOKE B and SMOKE S, which are about 60% and 40% of the price. Struggling to find a review that offers a direct comparison. The only one I've seen so far is in Russian.

Smoke B (the larger one)  is pretty good, if a bit noisy.   I'll do a full test of it soon.  It is essentially a very large vape with a big battery, and comes with a diffuser (condenser to make it really thick and heavy), various pipes and nozzles to get it in to hard to reach places, a remote, and a detachable fan to chop it up and make haze.  You're not going to fill a room with it and for fog with full size humans in it, you really just need to buy a £50 1kW fogger and some dense fluid.  Chill it in a conduit with some freezer blocks to condense it for low lying fog.  Smoke B be great for spot effects though - eg filling a glass, headshots or just drifiting a bit of fog across a table.

The Smoke Ninja is OK for smoke, I'm not convinced by its "Dry Ice" output.

Thanks Owen. Definitely leaning towards the Smoke B.
